Sayreville 48, Neptune 7: Connor Holmes, one of six Bombers to find the end zone, scored two touchdowns as Sayreville rolled to victory over a Shore Conference opponent.

Jacari Carter opened the scoring with a 97-yard punt return for a touchdown. Holmes (2 yards), Zuriel Wright (58 yards) and Sayvon Kirksay (25 yards) each followed with scoring runs to help Sayreville build a 28-0 lead.

Quarterback Mark Whitford connected with Colton Redding on a 28-yard scoring strike as the Bombers increased their advantage to 35-0 at the half.

On Sayreville’s second play from scrimmage after the intermission, Holmes scored on a 50-yard run.

The second string offense converted a muffed punt that was recovered at the Neptune 2 yard line into a Bryce Holon touchdown run for a 48-0 lead.

Neptune scored in the closing minute to avert a shutout.

Sayreville, which improved to 5-3, hosts Old Bridge on Friday.
