GMC Football: South River downs Keansburg in OT

Kyle Baszak scored the winning touchdown on a 10-yard run and the South River football team defeated Keansburg 26-20 in overtime on Saturday.

South River led 20-14 but Keansburg scored as time ran out to tie the game 20-20. Keansburg then went for a two-point conversion, but botched the snap which forced overtime.

The Rams started overtime with the ball, which resulted in Baszak scoring for a 26-20 lead. With the win, South River improved to 7-0 and tightened it grip on the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division. 

"The one thing is we had overtime early in the season against Middlesex, so we're battle tested," South River coach Rich Marchesi said. "We had the ball first and scored and we played good defense, I'm just really proud of my guys the way we came out on top. It feels great, we have to enjoy this and it's back to work on Sunday afternoon."

Baszak finished with 28 yards rushing and one interception. Quarterback Michael DeSantis went 13-of-19 for 249 passing yards, and rushed 11 times for 54 yards and one touchdown. Bill Drum scored the first touchdown of the game for South River on a one-yard run, and finished with 40 yards rushing. 

Terry Outlaw caught a 56-yard pass in the third quarter and finished with four catches for 95 yards. Travis Thomas caught four passes for 120 yards.
