GMC FOOTBALL: Piscataway uses ground game in win over Monroe

Piscataway 48, Monroe 21: Juwon Jackson rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries to lead the Chiefs (5-1) to a GMC Red Division win.

The Falcons (1-5) were outgained 339 to 309 in total yards from scrimmage. Two Monroe quarterbacks combined for 291 passing yards.

Piscataway was content to run the ball, amassing 300 yards on the ground. The Chiefs led 14-0 at the half and doubled their advantage to 28-0 in the third quarter.

Nasir Best finished with 128 rushing yards on nine carries. He had a 55-yard scoring run. Backfield mate Christian Hernandez scored on a 4-yard run.

Quarterback Joseph Hatcher completed 4 of 8 passes for 37 yards and one touchdown, a 12-yard screen pass to Jackson.

Najjir Woods had a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown to close out Piscataway’s scoring in the fourth quarter.

Monroe starting signal caller Fritze Frage completed 7 of 12 passes for 131 yards including a 40-yard scoring strike to Mason Shipp. He was injured in the third quarter.

Backup quarterback Dylan Gorhan, a sophomore, completed 10 of 12 passes for 172 yards and three touchdown for Monroe. He threw scoring strikes of 12, 39 and 40 yards in the fourth quarter.
