Asbury Park 47, Dunellen 8: The Blue Bishops raced out to a 33-8 halftime lead and tacked on 14 more points in the third quarter to produce the final margin.

The Destroyers, who have dropped three of their last four, fell to 2-4. The defeat was their second straight to a Shore Conference opponent.

Asbury Park evened its record at 3-3. The Blue Bishops, who defeated GMC Blue Division foe Metuchen earlier this month, host Bishop Ahr next weekend.

Dunellen closes out the regular season against winless Metuchen next weekend, undefeated South River on Nov. 13 and border rival Middlesex on Thanksgiving eve.

During halftime of Friday night’s game, Asbury Park dedicated its stadium in honor of William “Butch” Bruno, a legendary player and coach for the Blue Bishops who remains the lone student-athlete in school history to earn varsity letters in four sports.

Bruno, who is the son of NJSIAA assistant director Bill Bruno, earned All-State honors in football, basketball and baseball before graduating from the high school in 1933. He guided the Blue Bishops to undefeated seasons on the gridiron in 1931 and 1932.

Bruno returned to his alma mater, where he coached football from 1946-65 and taught history and civics for 25 years.
