FOOTBALL RANKINGS: Courier News/Mid-State 37 Top 10, through Week 6

1. Westfield (6-0)Last week’s rank No. 1 – The Blue Devils survived another one-touchdown game, posting their 31st straight victory by topping Elizabeth 13-6 at Rutgers on Saturday. Player of the Week candidate Jake Vall-Llobera led the way, excelling on defense and scoring both his team’s touchdowns.

2. North Hunterdon (6-0)Last week No. 2 – The Lions matched their 1983 team by posting their sixth straight win to start a season, besting Scotch Plains-Fanwood 49-27 Saturday. North takes aim at its 1979 club next, one that notched a 9-0 regular season.

3. Bridgewater-Raritan (4-2)Last week No. 3 – The Panthers got back on track by handling a very good Linden club Friday night, as POW candidate Justin Bryant took the lead, delivering an impact on both sides of the ball in a 28-12 victory.

4. Hillsborough (4-2) Last week No. 4 – After suffering losses to Bridgewater-Raritan and Phillipsburg earlier this season, the Raiders finally got a divisional victory, scoring a convincingly impressive 35-6 triumph over Hunterdon Central on Friday night.

5. Somerville (5-1)Last week No. 5 – The Pioneers flexed their muscles against Governor Livingston on Friday night, as Player of the Week candidate Jalahn Dabney took the lead in a 60-7 victory.

6. Voorhees (5-1)Last week No. 6 – The Vikings snapped an eight-game losing streak against Delaware Valley, topping the Terriers 23-13 on Friday night as Voorhees’ breakout season continued.

7. Hunterdon Central (2-4) Last week No. 7– The Red Devils were victimized by Hillsborough’s highly potent attack Friday night, falling 35-6. Central has lost two straight following a two-game winning streak, which followed a two-game losing streak, and will play host to Warren Hills on Friday night.

8. Franklin (2-3)Last week No. 10 – The Warriors scored a huge upset Friday night, shocking Union 14-13 in a highly dramatic affair, continuing their emergence from a brutal four-year stretch. Jamile Holmes earned a Player of the Week nomination in the victory.

9. Immaculata (4-2)Last week No. 9 – The Spartans scored a very impressive victory over Ridge on Friday night, limiting the Red Devils’ highly potent attack, while the offense came up big when it mattered most. Linebacker Xavier Powell received a Player of the Week nomination for his part in the triumph.

10. Ridge (2-4)Last week No. 8 – The Red Devils dropped their second straight contest, and fourth game in five outings, as they were surprised at home by Immaculata on Friday night. Ridge, which is in danger of missing the playoffs, will look to get things righted at Union on Friday night.

Manville by forfeit

Manville is taking a forfeit victory in its game originally scheduled for Friday night, Oct. 20, against People Prep’s Charter. The Mustangs will move to 6-1, matching last year’s win mark, and look for the program’s first seven-win season since it went undefeated in 1968 when it plays host to Sussex Tech in Week 8.
