GMC Football: Colonia uses second-half surge to defeat South Plainfield

Senior running back Luke Pero rushed for 232 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries to lead the Colonia High School football team to a 35-7 victory over South Plainfield on Friday night.

The contest was deadlocked 7-7 at the half. Colonia’s offensive line asserted itself in the third quarter, during which Pero found the end zone three times.

Backup quarterback Eric Hamilton added a 23-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for Colonia, which improved to 4-2.

The Patriots have limited opponents to an average of 6.5 points per game in each of their four victories.

Injury-plagued South Plainfield, which dropped its fourth straight, has been limited to three toucdowns and a field goal during its losing streak.
