Welcome to MyCentralJersey.com’s first Home News Tribune Athlete of the Week poll.

We’ll write a feature story about the top vote-getter, so make your votes count. Voting closes Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The players who made our Week One Player of the Week ballot can be found at the bottom of this story and are listed by sport. 

Nominations are based upon statistics available at press time.

GIRLS SOCCER: Carly Santucci, Middlesex

Santucci, a junior, recorded two goals and two assists in a 4-3 win over Wardlaw-Hartridge on Friday. She currently leads Middlesex (2-2) with four assists. 

GIRLS SOCCER: Danya Reynoso, Perth Amboy

Reynoso, a junior captain, finished with 16 saves on Sept. 12 against North Brunswick. On Sept. 14 she made 26 saves against Edison and on Saturday she finished with 28 saves against Woodbridge. 

BOYS SOCCER: Daniel Pena, South Amboy

Pena, a junior, recorded four goals and one assist in a win over East Brunswick Tech on Sept. 11. His strong performance in a win over Calvary Christian on Sept. 12 helped to secure coach Tony Gonsalves' 350th career win. On Friday against Perth Amboy Tech, Pena added two goals and an assist in a 6-2 win. 

FIELD HOCKEY: Maeve Kenny, Metuchen

Kenny, a junior, had four goals and one assist in a win over Piscataway on Sept. 13. Kenny currently leads Metuchen (4-1) with seven goals and two assists. 

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Joseph Harold, Spotswood

Harold, a junior, took first place in 17:35 on Sept. 12 as Spotswood beat J.F. Kennedy and South Plainfield to improve to 2-0. 

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: Belen Santiago, South River

Santiago, a junior, took first in 25:41 as South River won its first race of the season, 15-50, over Wardlaw-Hartridge on Sept. 12. 

TENNIS: Rachel Powlen, Highland Park

Powlen, a sophomore, went 3-0 at third singles last week as Highland Park went 2-1. Powlen won her match against Middlesex 6-1, 6-0 and against Metuchen 6-7, (6-8), 6-1, 7-5. She is undefeated so far this season. 

VOLLEYBALL: Hallee Christopher, Woodbridge

Christopher, a junior, finished with three aces, one kill, 44 assists and four digs as Woodbridge went 2-1 last week. 

GYMNASTICS: Allison Graves, South Plainfield

Graves took sixth in the all-around as South Plainfield placed third at the Raider Invitational on Saturday. On Sept. 11 in a win over Piscataway, she placed first in the uneven bars and floor exercise, and was second in the all-around and vault.
