Bruising running back Donavan Benoit, who rushed for more than 200 yards in a season-opening win over Monroe, was limited to 64 yards on 19 carries. Next: Bye.

9. Carteret (2-0): Quarterback Zamar Brake’s 1-yard touchdown plunge in overtime lifted the Ramblers to a 28-21 comeback victory over J.F Kennedy. After connecting with Diario Demorla on a 16-yard scoring strike with 39 seconds left in regulation, Brake completed a two-point conversion pass to Dwayne Sharpe, knotting the score at 21-21. Brake completed 9 of 22 attempts for 158 yards. He threw for two scores and ran for two more. Next: at North Brunswick, Saturday, noon.

10. South River (2-0): Junior quarterback Michael DeSantis rushed for two scores and threw another while leading the Rams to a 26-20 overtime victory over Middlesex. The Rams are in sole possession of first place in the Blue Division as the only division team with an unblemished record. DeSantis scored the game-winner on a 5-yard run in the extra session. Kyle Baszak created two late turnovers with a strip and a fumble recovery that enabled South River to forge a 20-20 tie with 1:41 left in regulation (Billy Drum’s 1-yard plunge knotted the score). He also caught a 9-yard touchdown pass. Next: at Bishop Ahr, Saturday, 1 p.m.
