After two weeks of struggling to score points, the Carteret High School football team got on track in a big way, rolling to a 32-14 victory over Woodbridge at Overholt Stadium on Friday night.

After forcing a Woodbridge three and out to open the game, Carteret quickly got on the board when a 55-yard drive was capped by a 1-yard Zamar Brake quarterback sneak. The extra point kick was blocked and the Ramblers led 6-0.

In the second quarter, the Ramblers scored again when Brake found Stephon Kelley-Gordon for a 23-yard touchdown pass along the left sideline. Once again the extra point was muffed, but the 12-point halftime lead was the first halftime lead the Ramblers held since their season-opening win over J.P. Stevens.

The second half opened with Carteret driving down the field once again, ending with a 23-yard pass from Brake to Dwayne Sharpe. The Ramblers then unsuccessfully attempted a two-point conversion.

The 19-0 lead was short lived as the Barrons showed some life. Driving 80 yards, aided by two 15-yard penalties, Woodbridge punched it in with 4-yard run from Ke’sean Glover. Holger Alcivar chipped in his first of two extra points to make the score 19-7.

With the offense running well, Carteret drove once again and finished with a 10-yard pass from Brake to Kelley-Gordon. Brake finished the game 13-of-19 for 150 yards and three touchdowns.

The two teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter, as Woodridge scored on a 20-yard run by Kiere Cooper and Carteret answered when James Henderson danced over from one yard out. The final score was shaped when Brake hit his brother Zaccheus Brake with the two-point conversion pass.

Offensively, Carteret was led by James Henderson, who tallied 88 yards on nine carries. Diario Demorla finished with four catches for 46 yards and Kelley Gordon had three carries for 50 yards and the two touchdowns.
