MyCentralJersey.com begins its coverage of the 2017 high school girls soccer season with a look at The Courier News' Preseason Player of the Year candidates.

Our preseason coverage continues later this week with team-by-team capsules, preseason Top 10 rankings and a preseason feature story. 

Following are our Preseason Player of the Year nominations. After reading about the candidates, please consider casting a vote for one of the players. The ballot can be found at the bottom of this webpage.

We'll write a feature story about the top vote-getter, so make your votes count.

VOTE NOW! CN BOYS SOCCER PRESEASON PLAYER OF YEAR

CHRISTINA CERNUTO, SOMERVILLE

Cernuto enters her senior year coming off a year in which she scored 18 goals and dolled out 11 assists. With 44 career goals, the senior sits 24 goals away from breaking Maxine Blackwood’s all-time school scoring record.

ALAINA PARISELLA, MOUNT ST. MARY

The senior forward led a dangerous Mount St. Mary team to the Non-Public South A semifinals and a 17-3-1 record. Parisella recorded15 goals and six assists in 2016.

AMELIA KIRBY, GILL ST. BERNARD’S

Playing with great creativity, Kirby is poised to lead the Knights on the offensive charge. The senior forward scored 16 goals and dished out four assists in a breakout junior season.

MADELINE WOLF, NORTH HUNTERDON

Wolf scored a team-high 17 goals and recorded three assists last fall. The senior will lead a Lions squad that has hopes for a promising season in 2017.

CHARLOTTE SMITH, SOUTH HUNTERDON

Smith will look to cap off her high school career with another stellar season after registering 13 goals and 14 assists a season ago. The senior has recorded 43 goals and 28 assists for her career.

ASHLEY ATUBI, NORTH PLAINFIELD

The dynamic forward has been one of the most potent goal scorers in the Skyland Conference over the last three years. Aftering scoring 21 times in 2016, Atubi has scored 82 times in her career and will look to hit triple digits with a strong senior season.

NATALIE BOND, WESTFIELD

The defender returns for her senior season to anchor a strong Blue Devil defense that helped Westfield advance to the Union County Tournament and North 2 Group IV semifinals in 2016.

NATALIA RAMIREZ, PINGRY

In only two varsity seasons, Ramirez has already accumulated 30 goals and 14 assists. The speedster enters her junior campaign after tallying 17 goals and five assists last fall.

KERRI MCNEELY, SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD

Mcneely helped lead the Raiders to a Union County title and a North 2 Group IV final berth with her dominant offensive play. She tallied 18 goals and eight assists last fall.

ERIN KEEFE, RIDGE

With her staunch defensive skills, Keefe anchored a defense that has played an integral role in the Red Devils’ back-to-back North 2 Group IV championships.

ALLISON LOWREY, BRIDGEWATER-RARITAN

The sophomore burst onto the scene last year as a freshman after tallying eight goals and seven assists. Lowrey looks to keep growing as a player this upcoming fall.
