MyCentralJersey.com begins its coverage of the 2017 high school boys soccer season with a look at The Home News Tribune's Preseason Player of the Year candidates.

Our preseason coverage continues later this week with team-by-team capsules, preseason Top 10 rankings and a preseason feature story.

VOTE NOW: GMC GIRLS SOCCER PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Following are our Preseason Player of the Year nominations. After reading about the candidates, please consider casting a vote for one of the players. The ballot can be found at the bottom of this webpage.

We'll write a feature story about the top vote-getter, so make your votes count. The poll closes Sept. 5.

JONAH BEBERMAN, HIGHLAND PARK

The senior forward, who set the school record for goals in a season, finished with 29 goals and seven assists last season as Highland Park went 13-8, advanced to the NJSIAA Central Group I semifinals and the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament preliminary round, where it fell to South River 3-2 in overtime.

MATT HOYT, MONROE

The senior midfielder/forward finished with 14 goals and 18 assists as Monroe went 16-4-1, advanced to the GMC Tournament first round and the Central Group IV semifinals. Hoyt will be looked to lead the scoring attack for the Falcons this season after the graduation of Conference Player of the Year Matt Mischler.

NICK CRUZ, ST. JOSEPH

The senior midfielder will look to improve on his 13 goals and 14 assists from last year. Cruz helped the Falcons to a 12-8-2 record, the GMC Tournament semifinals and the Non-Public A final.

ERICK LOUIS, SOUTH RIVER

The senior goalie made 188 saves last season as South River went 15-5-1. Louis will look to anchor a defense that helped the Rams advance to the Central Group I semifinals and the GMC Tournament first round.

DYLAN INGUARDI, SOUTH BRUNSWICK

The senior forward finished with six goals and four assists as South Brunswick went 14-7 and advanced to the GMC Tournament final for the second-straight year.

NICK RIOS, MONROE

The senior goalie finished with six shutouts and allowed only 19 goals in 21 games for the Falcons.

JASON SALAZAR, EDISON

The senior midfielder finished with six goals and five assists and was named to the All-County and All-Division teams last season. He returns as a captain this season as the Eagles look to build on last year's record.

CHRISTIAN McCARTNEY, OLD BRIDGE

The senior midfielder finished with eight goals and three assists last season. The four-year varsity player and three-year starter helped lead Old Bridge to a 12-6-2 record, which matched the most wins in a season.

ZACH DESROSIER, EAST BRUNSWICK

The senior defender and three-year starter will help to anchor the back line as East Brunswick will look to build on last season's 9-10-1 record and advance farther in the GMC and state tournaments.

ISAIAH STORAH, SOUTH PLAINFIELD

The senior midfielder/forward is being looked to as the go-to scorer for South Plainfield this season as the Tigers lost a number of key players from its 15-6-1 season last year.
