BOUND BROOK - The Bound Brook Garden Club received two awards for its club yearbook from the Garden Club of New Jersey at their annual meeting at the Bridgewater Marriott.

The first award was for an ‘Excellent Yearbook’ and the second was an award for the highest rated yearbook for a small club. The Bound Brook Garden Club yearbook received a perfect score of 100.

Although the club has received ratings in the high nineties in the past, this is the first time the club received a perfect score. The yearbook was judged on the variety of program topics, speakers and program types (tours, workshops and presentations) as well as the club projects that benefited the community.

This year the club once again joined with the Bridgewater-Bound Brook Rotary and the students from the Interact Club at Bound Brook High School to plant flowers at nine locations in town including the borough hall, the high school and the five ‘Welcome to Bound Brook’ signs at entrances to town from Bridgewater and Middlesex.

Members of the Bound Brook Garden Club gave a brief lesson to all the students on how to plant the flowers at the beginning of the project.

The gardeners then worked with three students to plant grasses on the center divider of Veterans Memorial Parkway near Billian Park and red, white and blue flowers at the entrance to the old Presbyterian Church cemetery on East High Street.

The club also added color to the entrance of the Bound Brook Post Office this summer by placing two planters filled with colorful, tropical plants.

Each December the club participates in the nation-wide Wreaths Across America project and places wreaths on the graves of veterans in the Bound Brook Cemetery.

The club is open to new membership for anyone interested in gardening. It is not a requirement to be a Bound Brook resident. The club meets the first Friday of every month from October through June at 11:00am. The meeting is followed by lunch and then a program.

The program is on a gardening related topic and involves a speaker or a hands-on workshop. Call Rosalie at 732-469-6076 or 908-581-3337 for more information about the club, its programs and the next meeting.
