Ice Hockey: St. Joseph earns top seed in GMC Cup

The St. Joseph (Met.) ice hockey team was named the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Greater Middlesex Conference Cup. 

The Falcons (9-7-1), which won their sixth-straight title with a 4-1 victory over Monroe, earned a bye into the semifinals along with second-seeded Colonia (14-2-1). 

South Brunswick earned the third seed, Monroe is the fourth seed, Old Bridge is the No. 5 seed and Edison is the sixth seed. 

The first round is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 12 at the higher seed and the semifinals are Wednesday, Feb. 14. The final is slated for Friday, Feb. 16 at Woodbridge Community Center. 

Here is the bracket: 

5-Old Bridge at 4-Monroe, winner at 1-St. Joseph

6-Edison at 3-South Brunswick, winner at 2-Colonia

St. Joseph is also playing in the Egan Cup, which is scheduled to start Saturday. The Falcons, the No. 3 seed, will face No. 2 St. John Vianney at 8 p.m. at the Ice Vault in Wayne. St. Joseph (Mont.), the No. 1 seed, will play No. 4 Montclair Kimberley. The final is Monday at 6 p.m.
