Somerset County Tournament first round

Rutgers Prep 16, Manville 0 (5 innings): Andrew Crystal went 2-for-3 with one home run, one double and five RBI while Justin Henry went 3-for-3 with one homer and three runs scored for 10th-seeded Rutgers Prep (3-6). Sam Beck tossed a mercy rule-shortened no-hitter for the Argonauts, who will play seventh-seeded Bernards in the second round on April 29.

Gills St. Bernard’s 6, Franklin 2: Jack Petraitis threw a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits, five walks while striking out three for 11th-seeded Gill St. Bernard’s (6-4). Cameron Gateman drove in two runs while Michael Taylor, AJ Donofrio, Evan Druskin and Scott Begane each added one RBI for the Knights, who will play sixth-seeded Ridge in the second round on Apirl 29. AJ Gordon went 2-for-3 with one run scored for 14th-seeded Franklin (0-8).

Pingry 3, Bound Brook 0: Jack Laurent tossed five shutout innings and tallied eight strikeouts for 12th-seeded Pingry (5-4). Spencer Spellman tallied one double, one RBI and one run for Big Blue, who will play fifth-seeded Somerville in the second round on April 29. Austin Pemberton pitched six innings and allowed three runs on six hits and three walks for 13th-seeded Bound Brook (2-8).

Regular season

Somerville 3, Immaculata 1: Thomas Babalis went 2-for-3 with two RBI while Preston Scott went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored for Somerville (5-3). Bobby Wortman tossed four innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks, and Devin Hack pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the Pioneers. Peter Gallo drove in one run on a sacrifice fly for Immaculata (3-7).

Scotch Plains-Fanwood 10, Union City 2: Peter Yarem hit a three-run triple in a six-run fourth inning for Scotch Plains-Fanwood (6-5). Nick NcCormack pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and four walks while striking out five for the Raiders.

Caldwell 15, Plainfield 4: Toran Smith drove in three runs while Waldy Arias tallied two runs scored for Plainfield (3-5).

Union Catholic 6, Newark East Side 1: Robert Herron went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored for Union Catholic (7-4). Donivyn Cruz finished with two RBI and one run scored. Sean Valli had one RBI. Andrew Kalebota, Shamar Crawford and Ryan Reilly each scored a run. Brandon Cuoto earned the win after he allowed one run on six hits and struck out six in 4 1/3 innings. Brendon Welsh pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed two hits and struck out two.
