GIRLS BASKETBALL

Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament 

First Round

Piscataway 61, South River 35: Ariel Jenkins' double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds led top-seeded Piscataway (18-4). LaNiya Miller added 17 points and six rebounds, while Saniya Myers had eight points and nine rebounds. Baiylee Barnes added six points and five rebounds. The No. 18th-seeded Rams (14-10) were led by Ashley Fischer's 10 points.

South Brunswick 60, South Plainfield 31: Luese Ufuah scored 20 points with six steals and five assists and two players had double-doubles to lead fourth-seeded South Brunswick. Alexis Adams had 18 points and 10 rebounds, along with five assists and three steals, and Onoseta Ufuah chipped in 13 rebounds and 10 assists with seven points for the Vikings (12-9). Additionally, Sydney Coleman added nine points, five assists and four rebounds. For 13th-seeded South Plainfied (10-13), Mackenzie O'Brien scored 12 points and Alyssa Palmeri had eight points. 

Sayreville 62, Spotswood 44: Jackie Ventricelli scored 21 points and Lyssandra Delacosta added 14 points to lead 10th-seeded Sayreville to the upset over seventh-seeded Spotswood. The Bombers play No. 2 Piscataway in Saturday's quarterfinals. Stephanie Van Note added nine points for Sayreville (15-8) and Jaci Jurkiewicz scored eight. Maddie Hellerich had 14 points and five rebounds for Spotswood (16-7) and Sarah Marotta had 10 assists and five points. Additionally, Amber Meagher had seven points and Paige Dadika (five rebounds) and Courtney Potter each scored six points. 

Middlesex 71, Piscataway Tech 33: Jessica Forte had 14 points, 14 rebounds and eight rebounds as eighth-seeded Middlesex beat No. 9 Piscataway Tech. Middlesex plays the winner of East Brunswick/Old Bridge in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Carly Santucci added 12 points and five steals for the Blue Jays (19-4), while Gianna Canavescio had 10 points and six assists and Sarah Pundock scored nine points as Middlesex led 42-10 at halftime. Haley Logue and Brooke Nelson each scored eight points. Eumani Hollins scored 16 points for Piscataway Tech (13-6) and Isabella Sosa had 15 points.

Edison 73, Woodbridge 57: Lourdes Marasigan had 19 points, nine assists and five rebounds to lead fifth-seeded Edison over No. 12 Woodbridge. The Eagles play fourth-seeded South Brunswick in Saturday's quarterfinals. Virginia Lagdameo scored 14 points for Edison (11-11), while Kenisha Chester had nine points and 10 rebounds and Daniella Marmol has 12 rebounds. Samira Sargent scored 10 points. Kameron De Vogd led Woodbridge (13-9) with 27 points and eight rebounds and Tamirah Gibbs had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Skylar De Vogd grabbed eight rebounds and Brooke Timinski dished seven assists with five rebounds.

Bishop Ahr 71, Monroe 32: Emma Boslet poured in 33 points with six rebounds and four steals to lead third-seeded Bishop Ahr over No. 14 Monroe. The Trojans play sixth-seeded J.P. Stevens in Saturday's quarterfinals. Megan Herka added nine points and seven rebounds for Bishop Ahr (22-3) and Morgan Maguire scored seven points. Dylianny DeLeon led Monroe (7-15) with 15 points.

Second Round

Scotch Plains-Fanwood 56, New Providence 41: Tommy Drubulis scored 14 points and Lamont Cruse had a double-double of 10 rebounds and 12 assists with six points to help ninth-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood over No. 8 New Providence. The Raiders (19-4) play top-seeded Roselle Catholic in Saturday's quarterfinals. Ryan Muench and John Petris each scored 10 points. Dylan Bedder led New Providence (19-4) with eight points and Owen Kovacs scored seven points. 

Scotch Plains-Fanwood 56, New Providence 41: Robert Miller scored 26 points as seventh-seeded Union Catholic overcame a 15-7 deficit at the end of the first quarter against 10th-seeded Summit. The Vikings (15-8) play second-seeded Patrick School in Saturday's quarterfinals. Justin Archer added 21 points, nine rebounds and five blocks, while Ibn Lynn scored 11 points. Giovanni Phillip added six rebounds.

Middlesex Conference Cup

Semifinal Round 

Colonia 5, South Brunswick 2: Drew Galea scored the hat trick with an assist as second-seeded Colonia topped third-seeded South Brunswick. Colonia (18-3-1) will play the winner of Wednesday night's game between St. Joseph/Monroe in the final on Feb. 16. TJ Evan added a goal and three assists, while Travis Beni chipped in a goal and two assists. Jarrett Dulemba added two assists and Justin DiNatale had an assist. Michael Castiello and Justin Guelph each scored for South Brunswick (10-9-1) and Harin Ponna and Ronit Thummaluru each had an assist.
