Boys Basketball: Gill St. Bernard's named top seed in SCT

The defending champion Gill St. Bernard's boys basketball team was named the top seed in the Somerset County Tournament on Monday night. 

The Knights (18-4) won their third-straight SCT title last season with a 71-61 victory over Rutgers Prep. This season, Gill St. Bernard's went 10-0 to win the Delaware Division and is undefeated against county opponents. Its only loss to a New Jersey team came at the hands of Roselle Catholic on Dec. 23.

Rutgers Prep was named the No. 2 seed, and Montgomery and Watchung Hills round out the top four, which all earn byes into the quarterfinals. 

The No. 5 seed went to Bridgewater-Raritan, Bernards is the sixth-seed, Ridge is the No. 7 seed and Immaculata was given the eighth seed. Those four teams earned a bye into the second round. 

The first round needs to be played by Thursday, and the second round by Saturday. The quarterfinals are Tuesday and the semifinals will be Feb. 22. The final will be a double-header with the girls on Feb. 24 at Franklin High School.

16-Manville at 9-Franklin, winner at 8-Immaculata, winner at 1-Gill St. Bernard's

13-North Plainfield at 12-Somerville, winner at 5-Bridgewater-Raritan, winner at 4-Watchung Hills

14-Pingry at 11-Hillsborough, winner at 6-Bernards, winner at 3-Montgomery
