Boys Basketball State Tournament Roundup for Wednesday, Mar. 1

MARLBORO – After being held to only one field goal in the first half, Sayreville’s Jahsim Floyd was everywhere in the post in the second half.

He scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half as the No. 5 seed Bombers rallied for a 61-52 victory over No. 4 seed Marlboro in an NJSIAA Central Group IV second round game on Wednesday night.

The Bombers (22-7) trailed the Mustangs (18-7), 28-24, at halftime, and then Floyd went to work in the final 16 minutes of the game. He had five points in the third quarter as the Bombers outscored Marlboro, 15-8, and took a 39-36 lead after three quarters. At one point in the fourth quarter, Floyd scored four straight points on putbacks as the Bombers led 47-39 with 5:30 left.

Xavier Townes (12 points) made a floater in the lane with two seconds left in the third quarter and he scored eight of his 12 points in the second half. Jayson Demild scored six of his 16 points in the first quarter. The Bombers led after every quarter but the second quarter.

Marlboro’s P.J. Ringel scored 11 of his 20 points in the second half while Dylan Kaufman finished with 17 points and Daniel Weiss had 10 points.

CENTRAL GROUP IV QUARTERFINALS

Hunterdon Central 70, Middletown North 41: Tucker Richardson scored 21 points to lead second-seeded Hunterdon Central (24-3). Chad Dreswick added 17 points for the Red Devils, who will play sixth-seeded Old Bridge in the semifinals on Friday.

CENTRAL GROUP II QUARTERFINALS

Manasquan 67, North Plainfield 49: Tony Godwin tallied 15 points while Tyler Mixson contributed 11 points for fourth-seeded North Plainfield (18-7).

NORTH 2 GROUP IV QUARTERFINALS

Linden 67, Columbia 50: Tavon Jones exploded for 30 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead top-seeded Linden (22-4). Joey Krempa tallied 13 points and 10 assists while Khalief Crawford added 10 points, four rebounds and two assists for the Tigers, who will play fifth-seeded Woodbridge in the semifinals on Friday.

Woodbridge 75, Union 64 (2 OT): Quassim Glover tallied 19 points while Hura Blaine and Keshaun Henry each added 17 points for fifth-seeded Woodbridge (21-5). Harry Rutkowski scored 12 points for the Barrons, who will play top-seeded Linden in the semifinals on Friday.

Newark East Side 86, Piscataway 30: D’Ondre Dent scored 12 points while Mattias Arrindell added 10 points for 10th-seeded Piscataway (16-10).
