FOOTBALL RANKINGS: Courier News/Mid-State 37 Top 10, through Week 5

1. Westfield (5-0)Last week’s rank No. 1 – The Blue Devils made it 30 straight victories, edging Union 7-6 on Friday night. Westfield has allowed just 6.8 points per game this season.

2. North Hunterdon (5-0)Last week No. 4 – The Lions pulled off the biggest victory the program has seen in decades, staying undefeated by shocking former No. 2 Bridgewater-Raritan 21-14 with a three-touchdown rally in the fourth quarter, with the winner coming on a trick play.

3. Bridgewater-Raritan (3-2)Last week No. 2 – The Panthers hadn’t lost a regular-season game in three years until three weeks ago and now they’ve dropped two, the latest coming in a wild Friday night game at North Hunterdon.

4. Hillsborough (3-2)Last week No. 3 – The Raiders rebounded from last week’s drubbing at Phillipsburg, reversing their fortunes against Ridge almost precisely, winning 42-20. Hillsborough lost to the Red Devils 44-20 last year. Player of the Week candidate Tyler Boatwright went off for 247 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the victory.

5. Somerville (4-1)Last week No. 5 – The Pioneers’ 13-game regular-season winning streak came to an end Friday night with a surprising 27-6 loss to Rahway.

6. Voorhees (4-1)Last week No. 8 – The Vikings continued to roll, as Player of the Week candidate Colin Tong led the way, scoring four touchdowns in a 35-8 victory over Governor Livingston.

7. Hunterdon Central (2-3) Last week No. 6 – The Red Devils played a very competitive game on the road, but ultimately fell to Elizabeth 30-22 at Williams Field.

8. Ridge (2-3)Last week No. 7 – The Red Devils fell back below .500, falling to Hillsborough 42-20. Ridge faces another tough task this weekend, playing host to No. 8 Immaculata on Friday night.

9. Immaculata (3-2)Last week No. 9 – The Spartans escaped Warren Hills with a 7-0 victory Friday night. Immaculata visits Ridge this weekend.

10. Franklin (1-3)Last week No. 10 – The Warriors were off in Week 5 and will play host to Union on Friday night.
