Skyland Conference

Bound Brook 61, Belvidere 40: Senior Janee’a Summers scored 21 points Tuesday, making her the first player in Bound Brook High School basketball history to eclipse 2,000 for her career as the Crusaders remained undefeated and clinched the Skyland Conference Mountain Division title with a 61-40 home victory over Belvidere.

Summers, who needed 21 to reach the mark, got it on a long 3-pointer from the wing midway through the third quarter, before she was taken out of the game with Bound Brook up over 30 points at the time. Summers, who has also eclipsed the 1,000-rebound mark, added 11 boards in the victory.

“Janee’a is unbelievable,” said Bound Brook third-year coach Jen Derevjanik, who has spent time around plenty of top-level players as a former Division I standout at George Mason and five-year veteran of the WNBA. “Not many people score 1,000 points, let alone 2,000. I don’t know anyone, not even on my college team. This is a huge accomplishment. She’s just such a good kid, I’m so happy to see this happen to such a nice person. Everyone around her was trying to feed her the ball because they wanted it for her, too.”

Olivia Nilsen added 14 points in the victory, as Bound Brook improved to 14-0.
