GIRLS BASKETBALL: Union County Tournament seeds released

Patrick School, New Providence, Westfield and Roselle Catholic earned the Top 4 seeds

The 2017 Union County Girls Basketball Tournament was seeded Thursday, and The Patrick School, New Providence, Westfield and Roselle Catholic were awarded the top seeds.

The tournament tips off Friday and Saturday with first-round games, featuring seeds No. 11 through No. 22 in action, with the rest of the field getting underway in next Tuesday’s second round.

The quarterfinals are scheduled for Feb. 17 with doubleheaders at two sites, with the semifinal doubleheader slated for Feb. 22. The final will be 7:30 p.m.  Feb. 24 at Kean University.

Here are the seeds and first and second-round matchups:

17-Brearley at 16-Scotch Plains-Fanwood, winner at 1-Patrick School

9-Rahway at 8-A.L. Johnson

20-St. Mary’s at 13-Summit, winner at 4-Roselle Catholic

21-Hillside at 12-Union Catholic, winner at 5-Cranford

22-Benedictine at 11-Kent Place, winner at 6-Oak Knoll

19-Elizabeth at 14-Dayton, winner at 3-Westfield

10-Governor Livingston at 7-Union

18-Plainfield at 15-Linden, winner at 2-New Providence
