Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament second round

Delaware Valley 47, Pope John XXIII 44: Veronica Christ scored 27 points and Margaret Affeld added seven points Saturday as the 12th-seeded Delaware Valley High School girls basketball team toppled No. 5 Pope John XXIII 47-44 in the second round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament. The Terriers built a 31-14 halftime lead, holding off a frantic second-half rally that included being outscored 19-9 in the final quarter. Del Val will visit fourth-seeded Hunterdon Central in next Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Voorhees 60, Kittatinny 58: Allie Best scored 21 points and Hailey Conroy added nine points as ninth-seeded Voorhees rallied past the No. 8 seed. The Vikings outscored Kittatinny 36-19 in the second half, including 20-12 in the fourth quarter. Defending champ Voorhees will visit top-seeded High Point in next weekend’s quarterfinals, a rematch of last year’s championship tilt.

Sparta 39, North Hunterdon 29: Kristina Harrell scored 12 points, but No. 10 seed North Hunterdon fell to seventh-seeded Sparta. The Lions are 12-7.

Regular season

South Plainfield 57, J.F. Kennedy 27: Caity Hughes exploded for 31 points and 10 steals, and Mackenzie O’Brien added nine points and eight rebounds as South Plainfield improved to 10-8. Tazia Pettus netted nine points to pace the Mustangs (0-17).

Westfield 44, A.L. Johnson 38: Danielle Rinaldi posted 11 points and six steals, and Jenna Iorio chipped in 10 points to lead Westfield. Shannon Devitt added nine points 15 rebounds and Grace Elliott contributed nine points for the Blue Devils (13-4).

Ridge 49, Metuchen 31: Sammy Weyrauch scored 14 points and Ava Haiback chipped in 10 points as Ridge moved to 8-11. Brynn Farrell scored 21 points for Metuchen.

Bound Brook 94, St. Mary’s (Elizabeth) 46: Janee’a Summers tallied 29 points and 10 rebounds, and Cameron Ward added 16 points, 11 boards and six assists as Bound Brook rolled. Olivia Nilsen chipped in 10 points for the Crusaders (18-1).

New Providence 46, Plainfield 34: Katie Kinum and Sarah Zeto each scored 16 points to fuel New Providence. Hannah Caminiti added 12 points for the Pioneers (16-3). Jailah White netted eight points and Karelis Acosta added seven points to pace Plainfield (2-14).

Piscataway 46, East Brunswick 38: Junior Laniya Miller scored 15 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter and Piscataway improved to 10-9. Miller added six rebounds in the victory, while Deonna Henry contributed eight points for the Chiefs. Sophomore Alyssa Bondi scored 15 points to pace East Brunswick (10-8).

North Brunswick 40, Colonia 27: Cynthia Williams scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead North Brunswick (9-10). Emily Farrell delivered seven points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Ayanna Abdulahad posted nine points and seven rebounds to pace Colonia (8-11).

South Brunswick 51, Edison 45: Amber Brown netted 19 points and eight rebounds, and Onosta Ufuah added 11 points to spark South Brunswick (16-3). Samira Sargent scored 22 points and Bianca Newsom added 10 points for Edison (12-7).

Bishop Ahr 56, New Brunswick 26: Sara Decker and Emma Boslet led a team effort with 12 points apiece and Bishop Ahr improved to 15-5. Aniyah Thomas tallied eight points and seven rebounds and Brehanna Chang added eight points of her own to pace New Brunswick (4-15).

Hillsborough 38, Mount Olive 32: Kristen Andreychak scored 11 points, while Elissa Nsenkyrie and Jill Stanton each dropped in eight points for Hillsborough (6-14).

J.P. Stevens 59, Perth Amboy 30: Disha Prabhudesai scored 16 points and Kayla Gatling added 12 points to lead J.P. Stevens. Laya Paladugu chipped in 10 points for the Hawks. Dashyra Ortiz scored 11 points to pace the Panthers.

Monroe 42, Old Bridge 36: Casey Filiault went for 23 points and Kennedy Selby helped out with nine points for Monroe. Rachel Kuhl scored 12 points and Amanda Carney added 11 points for Old Bridge.

Sayreville 77, Woodbridge 59: Patrice Harding went for 20 points and 10 steals and Isi Enahoro chipped in 17 points, six steals and six rebounds to fuel Sayreville. Ryane Brush chipped in 16 points and five rebounds and Morenike Akinrefon added 15 points and five boards for the Bombers (19-1). Jordan Vazquez and Najyah Adams each scored 16 points for Woodbridge (11-8).

High Point 47, Somerville 31: Melody Van Ness scored 15 points and Beatriz Tomale added 11 points, but Somerville fell to 12-5.

Steinert 55, Montgomery 45: Julia Loffredo scored 14 points and Carolyn Prevost added 12 points for Montgomery (3-17).

Cranford 45, Rahway 40: Samirah Henderson scored 12 points and Qua’Naijah McDowell chipped in 10 points for Rahway.

Union 46, Governor Livingston 36: Lindsay Gerrato scored 22 points for Governor Livingston (9-9).

Roselle Catholic 63, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 24: Brianna O’Brien scored 13 points to pace Scotch Plains-Fanwood (3-15).

Immaculata 48, Mount St. Mary 33: Anna Oliveri and Naiya Jefferson each netted 16 points and Abby Gilbert added 10 points to send Immaculata (9-10). Mount St. Mary falls to 9-15.

Peddie 55, Pingry 45: Megan Horn recorded a double-double for Pingry (9-11) with 23 points, 15 rebounds and two assists. Kelsey Ransom also had a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and five steals.
