Middlesex 28, Point Pleasant Beach 12: Fullback Tom Rau scored on runs of 75, 53 and 52 yards to lead the Blue Jays (3-1) to an impressive road victory against the previously undefeated Garnett Gulls (3-1).

Rau finished with 216 yards on 23 carries. The Blue Jays rushed for 366 yards. Devin Lanza contributed 70 yards on the ground on seven carries. He also had a 44-yard reception.

Josh Ramirez took a pitch on the first play from scrimmage and rambled 66 yards to give Middlesex an early 7-0 lead.

Rau scored on a 75-yard run midway through the first quarter as the Blue Jays doubled their margin.

Point Pleasant Beach had an opportunity to cut into the deficit, but on fourth-and-1 from the Middlesex 9, lost the handle on the ball and the Blue Jays recovered.

The Garnett Gulls finally got on the board just 14 seconds into the second quarter with a 42-yard touchdown march, closing the gap to 14-6.

Rau had scoring runs of 53 and 52 yards with 8:03 and 16 seconds left, respectively, in the third quarter as the Blue Jays built their advantage to 28-6.

Point Pleasant Beach answered with a 44-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to produce the final margin.

Brick Memorial 22, Sayreville 21: The Bombers squandered a two-touchdown first-quarter lead and fell in double overtime.

Tony Thorpe scored on a 3-yard run in the second overtime to close a 21-14 deficit to 21-20 and the Mustangs’ Blaine Netterman scored on the ensuing two-point conversion run.

Quarterback Mark Whitford threw two touchdown passes for the Bombers (3-1), ranked No. 4 in the Home News Tribune Top 10.

His 43-yard scoring strike to Jacari Carter gave Sayreville a 7-0 lead with 7:54 left in the first quarter. His 12-yard touchdown pass to Antwan Golson put the Bombers up 14-0 with 2:34 remaining in the first quarter.

Brick Memorial (3-1), which dropped a 28-0 decision to Sayreville last season, cut the deficit in half on a 15-yard touchdown run with 7:39 left in the second quarter.

Sayreville stopped the Mustangs with a goal-line stand to preserve its 14-7 lead with under a minute remaining in the third quarter, but Brick Memorial would score the equalizer midway through the fourth quarter.

After the Bombers blocked a field goal in the first overtime, they scored on their second-overtime possession with Savon Kirksey taking the ball into the end zone from three yards out for a 21-14 lead.

The Bombers will host top-ranked Piscataway (3-0), which had a bye, next weekend.

Shore Regional 21, Bishop Ahr 7: The Trojans, who scored on a 66-yard punt return, dropped their third straight after opening the year with a forfeit victory over Highland Park.

After Bishop Ahr took a 7-6 lead in the first quarter, the Blue Devils responded with two unanswered touchdowns to produce the final margin.

Quarterback Ryan Morris and Gil Goldsmith connected on their second touchdown pass of the game with 17 seconds left in the first half as Shore built a 14-7 lead.

Shore blocked a punt and recovered the loose ball in the end zone during the fourth quarter for the game's final points.

Red Bank Catholic 49, Colonia 12: The undefeated Caseys (4-0), who are averaging 50 points per game, scored seven first-half touchdowns as they rolled to a GMC-Shore Conference crossover victory.

Zack Bair scored four touchdowns over the first two quarters to help Red Bank Catholic build a 49-6 lead. Bair had two rushing touchdowns, a receiving touchdown and a kick return for a score before intermission.

The Patriots, who scored a touchdown in each half, fell to 2-2 with their second consecutive loss.

Asbury Park 40, Metuchen 12: Quarterback Will Hronich threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Bulldogs (0-3), who equaled their offensive output of two previous games combined.

Hronich connected with Danny Russell on a 10-yard scoring strike in the third quarter. Hronich also threw a 35-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs, who trailed 20-0 at the half, allowed five rushing touchdowns and one more score through the air.
