Girls Swimming: East Brunswick wins GMC Championship

The East Brunswick High School girls swim team won its fourth-straight Greater Middlesex Conference Championship on Friday, besting the rest of the field with 630 points.

J.P. Stevens placed second with 441 points while Metuchen was third with 365 points.

Amaya Renzulli, Megan Tang, Sabrina May and Sara Park combined to win the 200 freestyle relay for the Bears in 1:44.22, and Darby VanDeVeen, May, Renzulli and Park won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:48.70.

Bishop Ahr's Sarah Hardy set a meet record in the 200 individual medley, winning in 2:02.43, which broke the record Hardy set last year of 2:08.28. She also set a new record in the 100 backstroke, winning in 56.96, which broke the record of 57.43 set by Colonia's Monika Burzynska in 2015.

Burzynska took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.56, which broke the old record of 55.56 she set in 2015.

Metuchen's Julie Stankiewicz also set a meet record in the 500 freestyle. She won in 5:02.07, which broke the old record of 5:03.83 set by Piscataway's Elizabeth Borges in 2016. Stankiewicz also won the 100 freestyle in 52.94.

J.P. Stevens had two swimmers place first as Stephanie Chiu won the 50 free in 25.57 and Jenna Yan won the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.86.
