Vote for 2017 Courier News Fall Sports Athlete of the Year

MyCentralJersey.com is asking readers to vote for its 2017 Courier News Fall Sports Athlete of the Year.

The top vote-getter from our pool of eight candidates, each of whom has already been named Athlete of the Year in his or her respective sport, will receive a trophy and be featured in an upcoming edition of the Courier News. 

Readers can vote in the poll located at the bottom of this article for our 2017 Fall Sports Athlete of the Year.

The poll closes Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

2017 COURIER NEWS FALL SPORTS ATHLETE OF THE YEAR NOMINEES

GYMNASTICS: Jocelyn Moore, Hillsborough

Moore, a freshman, helped lead Hillsborough to its fourth-straight Somerset County Tournament title, and won the all-around, vault and balance beam as the Raiders won the Skyland Conference Tournament. At the Central Section II meet, which Hillsborough won for the fourth-straight time, Moore finished tied for first in the all-around, and placed first in the vault and floor exercise.

Hillsborough's Jocelyn Moore is the Courier News Gymnast of the Year.

TENNIS: Rhea Shrivastava, Montgomery

Shrivastava, a junior, finished the season 19-1 and led Montgomery to the Group IV title.

Montgomery's Rhea Shrivastava is the Courier News Girls Tennis Player of the Year.

VOLLEYBALL: Rachel Tam, Ridge

Tam, a junior, led Ridge to the Somerset County Tournament title, a 26-1 record and the program's first Group IV title.

Ridge's Rachel Tam is the Courier News Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.

FIELD HOCKEY: Abby Cawley, Bernards

Cawley, a defensive left back who finished with nine defensive saves, helped to lead Bernards to the Skyland Conference Valley Division title, a 19-2-1 record, its first Somerset County Tournament title since 1989, and the North 2 Group II semifinals. 

BOYS SOCCER: Dom Demcak, Bridgewater-Raritan

The senior and three-year starter finished with 10 goals and 11 assists as Bridgewater-Raritan went 18-1-2, won the Skyland Conference Delaware Division, finished as co-champions of the Somerset County Tournament, won the NJSIAA North 2 Group IV title and finished the season as Group IV semifinalists.

GIRLS SOCCER: Erin Keefe, Ridge

Keefe finsihed with eight goals and six assists this season as helped lead Ridge to a 20-4 record, the Somerset County Tournament final, the North 2 Group IV title and the Group IV championship where the Red Devils finished as co-champions with Freehold Township.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Chris Romero, Voorhees

Romero won the Skyland Conference Raritan Division Championships in 17:07, the Stewart Invitational in 15:32 and the Shore Coaches Invitational in 15:56. He also took first at the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Championships (16:15), placed second at the Skyland Conference Championships (15:43) and won the NJSIAA North 2 Group II race in 15:28. At the Group II Championships he was second in 15:41 and followed it up with a second-place finish at the Meet of Champions (15:44). At the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Regional, he took first in 15:56.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: Nikki Vanasse, Pingry

The sophomore won the Skyland Conference Valley Division Championships in 19:40, won the Shore Coaches Invitational in 19:31 and won the Somerset County Championships in 18:45. She took second at the Skyland Conference Championships (18:31), won the Prep State Championships (19:26), and the Non-Public A Championships 18:45. She also placed third at the Meet of Champions in 18:23 and placed sixth at the Nike Cross Northeast Regionals.
