GMC FOOTBALL: Triple-option Old Bridge takes to the air in victory

Quarterback Anthony Imbimbo, who entered the contest having completed just five passes in five previous games, threw four touchdown passes as the run-oriented Old Bridge High School football team surprised New Brunswick with an aerial attack out of the triple-option offense in a 42-6 victory at Lombardi Field on Friday night.

Imbimbo completed 5 of 6 attempts for 133 yards. Liam Knowles and Manny Wheagar were on the receiving end of two touchdowns apiece. Knowles and Imbimbo each had a rushing touchdown.

New Brunswick was outgained 484 to 171 in total yards from scrimmage and was limited to 61 yards on the ground.

Imbimbo opened the scoring with a 4-yard run in the first quarter. He connected on scoring strikes of 37 yards to Knowles and 35 yards to Wheager as the Knights built a 21-0 lead.

After Nydir Harmon threw a 20-yard scoring strike to Alquan Brown-Taylor to help the Zebras close the deficit to 21-6, Imbimbo rebuilt the margin to 28-6 at the half on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Wheagar.

Knowles closed out the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter and a 60-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.

Old Bridge (4-2) amassed 351 yards on the ground. Imbimbo carried 16 times for a game-high 134 yards. Knowles finished with 85 yards on five carries.

Harmon completed 8 of 15 passes for 110 yards and backfield mate Dylan Johnson finished with 75 rushing yards on 17 carries. Dahvey Hicks had six catches for 84 yards.

Damian Lewocha and Bryce Madison recorded six tackles apiece to anchor Old Bridge’s defense.

New Brunswick fell to 1-6 with its third consecutive loss.
