Outlook: With a good mix of veteran leadership and young talent, the Panthers will look to compete for county and state titles this season. Allison Lowrey (eight goals, seven assists) and Morgan Winchock (six goals) were key cogs in the offense last year and figure to be so once again. Samantha Vail and Melanie Lytle will also to contribute to a balanced scoring attack. The defense will be anchored by center backs Cheyenna Cook and Allison Lynch.

Outlook: The Red Devils captured their first group title in school history with a 3-0 victory over Ridge in the Group IV final last year, and expectations are as high as ever. Hunterdon Central boasts a nice mix of veteran experience and freshman talent. Senior Caitlyn Adams continues to be the maestro of the offense while Dana Flood, Bri Floyd and freshman Lilliana Gemma will lead the attack. Ava Gillikin (11 shutouts) returns as goalkeeper and alongside center back Noelle Golden, will lead a young, but feisty, defense.

PINGRY

Coach: Lauren Molinaro, second season (11-6)

Last year’s record: 11-6

Outlook: Big Blue improved immensely last season and will be looking to continue that trend in 2017. While Pingry lost some valuable players to graduation, they have retained enough to remain competitive. Natalia Ramirez is a special offensive player as evidenced by her 17 goals and five assists from a season ago. The junior has 30 career goals and 14 assists to her name.

RIDGE

Coach: Katie Donahue, 11th season (159-40-26)

Outlook: Ridge, the back-to-back North 2 Group IV champions, will look to win a third sectional title in a row with a strong, veteran roster returning. The Red Devils hope to once again be a dangerous defensive unit and finish any offensive opportunities they can create. Molly Mahoney (six goals, four assists), Samantha Weyrauch (five goals and two assists) and Emma Wightman (one goal) will lead the charge on offense. Erin Keefe, Maddy Lui and Kaitlyn Madden are veteran defenders who create a staunch backline. Ally Lindsey got plenty of reps in goal last year and will remain a reliable last line of defense.

MOUNTAIN DIVISION

BOUND BROOK

Coach: Mahon Ryan Hannaway, third season

Last year’s record: 3-17-1

Outlook: Bound Brook will be rebuilding after graduating six seniors, but the Crusaders still hope to be competitive within the conference. Jenna Theissen hopes to build upon a promising sophomore campaign while Cristina Rosa and Sophie Hector will sure up the defense.

GILL ST. BERNARD’S

Coach: Michael Williams, fifth season (42-33-6)

Last year’s record: 13-7-2

Outlook: Falling just one game short of the Non-Public B final last season, GSB is hungry to take the next step forward this season. While Ava Diggins, a Michigan State commit, will lead the team as a defensive force, Amelia Kirby (16 goals) will use her creativity to lead the offensive charge on the other end of the field. Teresa Zimmer is a versatile weapon that can be used in the midfield and in goal. Devyn Scott is a first-year varsity player that is looking to make her mark as a smart center midfielder.

MANVILLE

Coach: Erin Shannon, 13th season

Last year’s record: 3-13-1

Outlook: Despite the graduation of many seniors, the Mustangs are anticipating a better season in 2017. Vanessa Ramirez is a solid goalkeeper and should once again anchor the defense. Melanie Solis, Lexi August, Isabella Sanchez and Alena Petrock lead an offensive unit that hopes to find the back of the net more this season.

NORTH PLAINFIELD

Coach: Cara Colabelli, second season (8-9)

Outlook: The Canucks have quite a bit of varsity experience returning, and they hope to finish above .500 this season. Forward Ashley Atubi is a dominant offensive force and will excel up top once again. Atubi has scored 82 career goals and could hit the century mark by year’s end. Destine Alarcon (six assists) and Shaniyah O’Neal will be nice complimentary pieces on the offense. Anne Joseph, Alyssa Pomey and Delilah Shaquic will anchor the North Plainfield defense.

RUTGERS PREP

Coach: Tony Mento, second season (12-7-1)

Outlook: The Argonauts have a nice mix of experienced veterans and promising newcomers and hope to capture their first division title. First Team All-Conference selections as sophomores, Macey Mento and Taylor Williams highlight a solid core of returners. Senior captains Tyler Patel, Arthi Vaidyanathan and Andrea Gamboa bring leadership and depth to the mix. Youngsters Amanda Aloia and Mickie Kraker will control the midfield while Jasmine Lyles and Thara Kalvala should both be forces on defense. Emma Littman hopes to follow a solid freshman season with an even better sophomore campaign in goal.

RARITAN DIVISION

FRANKLIN

Coach: Scott Burd, ninth season

Last year’s record: 8-10-2

Outlook: The Warriors will hope to remain competitive in the Skyland Conference and make small improvements around the field. Franklin will look to multiple sources for goals. Lauren Vladyka (three goals) and Summer Thompson (three goals) are potential candidates to lead the offense. The Warriors will also look to solidfy their defense, led by senior back Ale Kline.

MONTGOMERY

Coach: Jennifer Elgin, second season (2-15)

Outlook: Coming off three losing seasons, the Cougars are confidant that the 2017 campaign figures to be their most successful season in recent memory. Charlotte Glancey (11 career goals) is a four-year starter and will be a strong leader on the field. Junior Jennifer Van Hook will contribute in the midfield as the Cougars hope to be very dangerous at that position. Montgomery lost its goalkeeper in Michela DiMeglio to graduation, so it will be up to the youngster Allison Walsh to replace the departed senior.

NORTH HUNTERDON

Coach: Steve DeLorenzo, third season (24-14-1)

Last year’s record: 11-7

Top lettermen lost: Nina Bussanich, Jordan Beneducci, Kristina Harell, Olivia Ripnyak, Becky Fluchel, Hannah Mitchell

Key returners: Madeline Wolf, Kelly Mahaney, Alicia Giordana, Becca Fontana, Emily Johnson

Newcomers: Sam Van Belle, Katie Fullowan, Kristen Wolf, Abby Linnen, Olivia Ramirez

Outlook: Madeline Wolf led the team last season with 17 goals, but the senior is currently recovering hip surgery. It is unknown whether or not Wolf will return to the field this season. Rebecca Fontana tallied seven assists and can help facilitate the offense during Wolf’s indefinite absence.

VALLEY DIVISION

BERNARDS

Coach: Chris Habermas, 11th season (147-64-9)

Outlook: The Mountaineers are a very young squad but still have aspirations of winning the Group II title. Mackenna Davis (nine goals, six assists), Elizabeth Coury (five goals, three assists) and Laurel McHale (six goals) will highlight a balanced offense. Regan Chatwin is one of the top defenders on the team while goalkeepers Jenna Whelan and Susan Oberschmidt add depth in between the posts. Ella and Lauren Bogdan are two intriguing freshmen midfielders who could potentially contribute despite their young age.

DELAWARE VALLEY

Coach: Drew Huzar, second season (2-14-3)

Outlook: After playing a defensive style due to a very young starting lineup, the Terriers will look to play a more attacking style this fall with some more experience under their belts. Jessica Ludwig (four goals, two assists) will look to lead the charge under the new offense while Kayley Brooks figures to be a nice secondary option on the scoring attack. Katherine Schiereck is a talented defensive player and will play in front of Brianna Schneider, who tallied 213 saves in goal last season.

IMMACULATA

Coach: Juan Castrillon, second season (5-10-3)

Outlook: The Immaculata roster consists of mostly upperclassmen as the Spartans hope to improve upon last year’s record. Returners Naiya Jefferson, Alexa Marsh and Nicole Kaplan will pace the offense. Incoming junior forward Terri Jackson has the potential to contribute to the scoring attack. Jenna Mozic and Brooke Pappalardo will anchor the defense.

MOUNT ST. MARY

Coach: Phillip Iuliano, fifth season (47-29-5)

Outlook: Mount St. Mary won the conference a season ago, and expectations are as high as ever as head coach Phillip Iuliano is hoping for a 20-win campaign this fall. The Lions have many starters returning, which bodes very well for them. At forward, Alaina Parisella (15 goals, six assists) leads the offensive attack while Kaitlin O’Malley is a young talent. Emma Bedell (four goals, six assists) and Hanna Guarnuccio (five goals, four assists) will continue to be playmakers at the midfield position. The Lion defense hopes to be solid once again with goalkeeper Michael Walsh (148 saves) anchoring the unit.

SOMERVILLE

Coach: Michael Kydonieus, 12th season (163-39-13)

Last year’s record: 13-3-1

Top lettermen lost: Olivida Markowski, Codie Bartow, Sarah Coulson

Key returners: Lauren Ciufo (Jr., GK), Christina Cernuto (Sr., F)

Outlook: Somerville was one of the most dangerous teams in Somerset County a season ago and it should be more of the same for the Pioneers with nine starters returning. Headlining a strong veteran class will be Christina Cernuto, who tallied 18 goals and 11 assists last fall. Cernuto is 24 goals away from breaking Maxine Blackwood’s all-time school scoring record. Goalkeeper Lauren Ciufo is back and will help anchor the defense in goal.

UNION COUNTY CONFERENCE

GOV. LIVINGSTON

Coach: Mike Roof, 14th season

Last year’s record: 5-12-2

Top lettermen lost: Riley Jankowski (M), Hannah Penington (M), Emily Kierman (M/D), Meghan Place (M), Meera Savage (GK), Lara Romano (F), Paige Collins (M)

Key returners: Catalina Abusada (Jr., F), Ashley Echeverry (Sr., M), Anna Pasquale Sr., D), Maggie Zecca (Jr., F)

Outlook: The Highlanders lost some valuable talent to graduation, so it will be up to the youngsters to make up for the loses. Cataline Abusada, Ashley Acheverry and Maggie Zecca all logged valuable minutes last year and should pace the offense. Anna Pasquale will anchor the defense.

NEW PROVIDENCE

Coach: Scott Murphy, 15th season (194-117-18)

Last year’s record: 5-13-2

Outlook: Eleven returning varsity players and a tough schedule will help prepare the Pioneers for a potential run in the state tournament. The Pioneers graduated three of their four starters from the back line, but Nicole Fusco will help solidify the defense. Riley Kinum (seven goals, six assists) will pace the offense while Amanda Maurer, Alana Ponte and Olivia Faucher will add depth and balanced to the scoring attack.

PLAINFIELD

Coach: Keith Pellew, first season

Last year’s record: 4-11

Key returners: Angel Branch (Sr., GK), Jacqueline Camacho (Jr., M), Helen Cruz (Sr., D), Kelly Coca (Sr., D), Beverly Bennett (Sr., D), Kelli Guardado (Sr., M)

Newcomers: Tamarah Tolentino (So., M), Stephanie Pantaleon (So., M), Kiara Rosa (Fr., F), Katherine Mojica (Fr., F), Stephanie Martinez (Sr., D)

Outlook: With a brand new coach in Keith Pellew at the helm, the Cardinals look to improve upon last year’s record. Angel Branch returns as a solid presence in between the pipes. Helen Cruz, Kelly Coca and Beverly Bennett should sure up the defensive line. Stephanie Pantaleon should be one of the Cardinal’s best options on offense.

SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD

Coach: Kevin Ewing

Last year’s record: 18-0-4

Top lettermen lost: Christina Rodgers, Sophie Brause, Alyssa DiFrancesco, Andrea Leitner, Erin Hayes

Key returners: Ashley Vincent, Taylor Diggs, Kerri Mcneely, Danielle Mrozek, Katie Mrozek, Erika Muskus

Outlook: The seven-consecutive Union County Tournament champions will be looking to take home another trophy in 2017 after falling to Ridge in the North 2 Group IV final by penalty kicks. Kerri Mcneely was a force on the offensive end last fall, scoring 18 goals to lead the team. The Raiders will need that kind of offensive production from the forward once again. Ashley Vincent and Taylor Diggs will anchor a defense that will be starting a new goalie. The Raiders have a good nucleus returning and will likely be playing competitive soccer down the stretch.

UNION CATHOLIC

Coach: Jim Revel, 29th season

Last year’s record: 6-12-1

Top lettermen lost: AJ Scheidemann (M), Chynna Adorno (F), Isabel Santiago (D), Cassie Lamadieu (D)

Alexandra Borik, Jen Lynes and Izzy DiDario figure to be the key cogs in the defensive unit. Freshmen Christina Layden and Caroline Morgan may surprise with their contributions.

WESTFIELD

Coach: Alex Schmidt, ninth season (113-29-17)

Key returners: Natalie Bond (Sr., D), Grace Elliott (Sr., M), Kylinn Kraemer (Sr., D), Melina McDevitt (Sr., F), Josie Greenwood (Sr., M)

Newcomers: Katie Butler (Sr., F), Faith Dobosiewicz (So. F)

Outlook: After falling in the Union County Tournament and North 2 Group IV semifinals on penalty kicks last year, the Blue Devils plan to be back with a vengeance this fall. Grace Elliott and Melina McDevitt each scored eight goals last season and will spearhead the effort to replace Taylor Morgan, who scored 12 goals in 2016. Katie Butler and Faith Dobosiewicz are two young strikers that could figure to be difference makers. Westfield has been looking forward to this season after 2016's disappointing end.
