Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman has taken the Citizens Campaign’s Civic Pledge to leave her community and country better than she found them by pursuing and supporting pragmatic solutions that are: (1) based on evidence of success (2) cost-effective and (3) advanced in a no-blame manner.

The former governor urged all New Jerseyans to join her in “Taking the Pledge, and becoming part of a Civic Challenge to fix our broken politics and government.” In doing so, she joined Govs. Kean and Florio as major backers of the Civic Challenge.

The Civic Challenge is a $2 million statewide campaign designed to give citizens the power to fix our broken politics and government. The goal is to develop a citizen driven problem solving force advancing their own practical solutions with a no-blame approach and demanding a solutions focus at all levels of government. This citizen-driven bottom-up governance, according to Citizens Campaign leaders, is the way out of the rut of rigid ideology, blame game politics and the governing problems they create.

Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman has taken the Citizens Campaign’s Civic Pledge to leave her community and country better than she found them by pursuing and supporting pragmatic solutions.

“We know that Washington and Trenton alone can’t solve our problems," Whitman said. "Citizens trained in no blame problem solving can add significant firepower and they can demand that same practical approach from elected officials from Town Hall to the Oval Office. That is why I urge all New Jerseyans to join me today in taking the Civic Pledge.”

Harry Pozycki, chair of The Citizens Campaign said, “We are encouraged to have Gov. Whitman, a respected and principled public servant, take the Civic Pledge. Her example will send a strong message to citizens throughout New Jersey that they have the power to fix our politics and government."

Citizens who take the Civic Pledge are asked to spread the Pledge by asking their friends, neighbors and social media contacts to join them. Pledge takers are invited to personally advance the no blame, problem solving principles of the Pledge by: (1) becoming a proponent of no blame solutions-focused Civics Classes for high school students and adults; (2) becoming a participant in and/or teacher of no-blame problem-solving for adults.; or (3) becoming a Civic Trustee, committing to at least one year of service working with their fellow Trustees in the monthly no blame, problem-solving sessions of local Civic Trusts.

People who choose one of these options are assisted by The Citizens Campaign volunteer “dream team” of top experts in government law, administration, media and the political strategies of policy implementation. They also get access to live and online citizen power training, and free manuals on citizens’ legal rights in local government, as well as other support tools.

Among the most powerful tools available to Civic Challenge participants is a Solutions Menu packed with evidenced-based local government solutions and a Ten Step Guide to No Blame Problem-Solving.

The Civic Challenge Campaign seizes on the opportunities for a more powerful role for citizens created by both greater access to government records on current policies and the technological ability to search for solutions with evidence of success.

Citizens Campaign leaders noted that these new tools for improving our policies give citizens the ability to play a major role in developing government policy without waiting for the political establishment.

Citizens Campaign leaders went on to say that when citizens use the power of technology to "share" their solutions with other citizens, they can have statewide and national impact.

The Citizens Campaign brings to the Civic Challenge campaign a proven track record of helping citizens to develop and advance solutions on the local, county and state level.
