Triple C Housing and Promise House, along with Monarch Housing, Kitchen & Associates, Mid-Atlantic Engineering and the City of New Brunswick recently received the 2016 Governor’s Excellence in Supportive Housing Award.

The award was proudly accepted by Leslie Stivale, executive director of Triple C Housing .

This award recognizes achievement in the creation of a 100 percent supported housing project designed to serve special needs populations, such as homeless individuals; victims of domestic violence; persons with mental, physical, or developmental disabilities; persons with HIV/AIDS; and youth aging out of foster care.

Promise House, in New Brunswick, is new construction on a formerly vacant lot in a residential neighborhood, according to a news release. Promise House provides 10 units for very low-income formerly homeless individuals, includes 10 Section 8 vouchers for 10 years with automatic renewal for five years and offers a variety of resources and healthcare on-site to improve residents healthcare status and housing stability.

Triple C Housing Inc. and Promise House, along with Monarch Housing, Kitchen & Associates, Mid-Atlantic Engineering and City of New Brunswick recently received the 2016 Governor’s Excellence in Supportive Housing Award.

“We are truly lucky to have been part of an amazing team of unbelievably gifted partners for their contributions to Promise House,” said Leslie Stivale, Triple C executive director. “The most significant aspect of this award is highlighting the importance of having a safe, secure and comfortable place to call home for 10 individuals who were formerly homeless or institutionalized and struggling to recover from mental illness…the outcomes achieved by the tenants speak volumes in how fast and far one can grow if given the opportunity to find sanctuary at home and hope to start anew.”

As quoted by one of the tenants: “The thoughtful touches…really made me feel cared for and part of a larger family. In fact, it touched me so much that in the midst of making my bed for the first night in my new home, I collapsed to the floor and cried joyful tears of gratitude…thank you for providing a safe clean and supportive environment for me to heal and grow roots.”

The Triple C project was supported by state and local agencies, including the NJ Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) Special Needs Housing Trust, The City of New Brunswick Department of Planning, Community and Economic Development, The New Brunswick Housing and Redevelopment Authority, The County of Middlesex Housing First Trust Fund, and the state Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services “Home to Recovery” initiatives.

According to the news release, all these sources were leveraged to cost effectively fund bricks and mortar to create affordable housing, link rental subsidies to bridge the income gap to prevent homelessness through the creation of permanent, supportive housing, and fund supportive services with integrated healthcare management to promote self sufficiency and improve quality of life.

Triple C Housing is a member of The Housing and Community Development Network of NJ, working to raise awareness of the Building a Thriving NJ campaign; the initiative aims to boost the state’s economy through investments that create more affordable homes, address homelessness prevention and services, revitalize neighborhoods, tackle foreclosures, and eliminate childhood lead poisoning by promoting safe homes and schools.
