Bridgewater-Raritan rolls to football playoff win with shutout and balanced ground game

The top-seeded and undefeated Bridgewater-Raritan High School football team rolled to a 42-0 victory over eighth-seeded Columbia in the opening round of the North 2 Group V playoffs on Friday night.

The Panthers (10-0), who will host the winner of another first round game between Elizabeth and East Orange in next weekend’s semifinals, advanced with a solid ground game that amassed 313 yards.

Justin Bryant recorded 12 tackles to help the Panthers record their third shutout. Nick Celli posted seven tackles, while teammate Allen Choy and Karnilla Cory had six apiece. Matt Alesandro recorded a sack and caused a fumble.

Bridgewater-Raritan has now held seven opponents to 10 or fewer points.

Brandon Meyers had two touchdown receptions and Anthony Vizzoni had two scoring runs. Ray Bellaran, Justin Davidovicz and Anthony Goffe each scored once.

Vizzoni finished with 95 yards on eight carries. Bellaran rushed 13 times for 72 yards. Myers had 75 receiving yards and Donny Kelton had 34 receiving yards.

Nick Attanasio completed 3 of 6 passes for 49 yards including an 11-yard scoring strike in the first quarter and a 4-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter that helped the Panthers build a 28-0 halftime lead.

Davidovicz converted all six of his PAT attempts.
