GMC Boys Soccer Top 10

1. Monroe (14-3-1): After winning its first Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division title since 2005, Monroe stumbled, losing back-to-back games. The Falcons fell to South Brunswick 1-0 then were upset by 16th-seeded Sayreville in the first round of the GMC Tournament. Monroe earned the No. 4 seed in Central Group IV and will face No. 13 West Windsor-Plainsboro South on Monday.

2. Old Bridge (10-5-2): Old Bridge had a five-game win streak snapped when the fourth-seeded Knights were upset by No. 13 Edison in the GMC Tournament first round. With the regular season over, Old Bridge earned the No. 10 seed in Central Group IV and will travel to No. 7 New Brunswick on Monday.

3. New Brunswick (11-4-2): The Zebras closed out the regular season with back-to-back losses. They dropped a 3-2 decision to Monroe on Oct. 18, then the No. 2 seed in the GMC Tournament was upset by No. 15 Metuchen 2-1 in the GMC Tournament first round. Seventh-seeded New Brunswick will host No. 10 Old Bridge in the first round of Central Group IV on Monday.

4. St. Joseph (11-6-2): St. Joseph has won its last five games by a combined 25-5 with two shutouts. The Falcons, the No. 9 seed in the GMC Tournament, advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over No. 8 East Brunswick Tech in the first round and a 5-3 victory over No. 16 Sayreville in the quarterfinals. St. Joseph will play fifth-seeded South Brunswick in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Thursday at South Brunswick and earned a bye into the state tournament quarterfinals as the No. 5 seed in Non-Public South A.

5. South Brunswick (13-5): The Vikings have won their last five games by a combined 15-2 with three shutouts. South Brunswick picked up a 1-0 victory over Monroe on Oct. 19, and as the No. 5 seed in the GMC Tournament advanced to the semifinals with wins over No. 12 South River and No. 13 Edison. South Brunswick will play No. 9 St. Joseph in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Thursday, then the 11th-seeded Vikings will travel to No. 6 North Brunswick in the first round of Central Group IV on Monday.

6. South Plainfield (14-5): After dropping two games in a row, South Plainfield bounced back with wins over Piscataway and East Brunswick in the GMC Tournament. The No. 3 seed and reigning tournament co-champions will face No. 10 North Brunswick in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Thursday at South Brunswick. The Tigers were given the top seed in Central Group II and will face No. 16 Delaware Valley in the first round on Monday.

7. North Brunswick (14-3-2): North Brunswick has gone 8-0-1 in its last nine games and advanced to the GMC Tournament semifinals as the No. 10 seed with wins over No. 7 Spotswood and No. 15 Metuchen. The Raiders will face No. 3 South Plainfield in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Thursday at South Brunswick. In the state tournament, North Brunswick, the No. 6 seed, will host No. 11 South Brunswick in the first round of Central Group IV on Monday.

8. East Brunswick (8-9-1): The Bears have gone 1-3 in their last four games but advanced to the GMC quarterfinals as the No. 6 seed with a 1-0 win over No. 11 J.F. Kennedy. East Brunswick fell to No. 3 South Plainfield in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. The No. 16 seed in the Central Group IV Tournament, the Bears will face top-seeded Hunterdon Central on Monday.

9. Sayreville (8-8-1): Sayreville earns a spot in this week's Top 10 for its impressive performance against top-seeded Monroe in the GMC Tournament first round. The 16th-seeded Bombers upset the Falcons 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals, where they fell to No. 9 St. Joseph 5-3, which was their final game of the season.

10. Metuchen (11-5): Metuchen also pulled off an impressive upset in the GMC Tournament, sending second-seeded New Brunswick packing as the No. 15 seed in a 2-1 victory in the first round. The Bulldogs fell to No. 10 North Brunswick in the quarterfinals, but qualified for the state tournament. Seventh-seeded Metuchen will host No. 11 Highland Park in the first round of Central Group I on Monday.
