South Brunswick High School football coach Joe Goerge earned his 200th career victory as senior quarterback Josh Liao threw a scoring strike and rushed for a touchdown in the Vikings’ 21-0 blanking of East Brunswick on Friday night.

“Joe is a phenomenal football coach, but he’s a better human being,” South Brunswick assistant Jake Rodriguez said. “He loves his players, and his players love him. It’s just a tremendous respect that he gets from everybody, and he earns it. He’s just one of those people that is born to coach and to be around young men and make them better. He’s been a godsend to South Brunswick. We couldn’t be happier and prouder to have a coach like him.”

Liao scored on a 1-yard run and connected with Anthony Blakey on a 12-yard scoring pass to help South Brunswick (3-2) build a 14-0 lead in the third quarter.

Jaylan Lawson closed out the scoring with a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter as the Vikings extended their winning streak over the Bears (1-4) to six games.

The Chiefs of Piscataway High School take on the Vikings of South Brunswick in a varsity football game at South Brunswick High School on Friday September 23, 2016.
