The Carteret High School football team marched 89 yards during a 12-play game-opening drive to set the tone for an impressive 40-0 victory over North Brunswick at “The Pit” on Friday night.

Antoran Chandler’s two-yard scoring run capped the 12-play march to give Carteret an early 7-0 lead.

Carteret amassed 442 yards of offense, rushing for 354 yards. Six different players scored.

The Ramblers, ranked No. 9 in the Home News Tribune Top 10, added another score early in the second quarter when Quartius Byrd plunged in from two yards out for a 14-0 advantage.

Carteret (3-0) would tack on a late second-quarter score when senior quarterback Angelo Golino found Justin Taylor in the end zone for a four- yard touchdown pass as the Ramblers took a 21-0 lead into halftime.

Against a stifling first-half defense, North Brunswick (0-3) only was able to gain one first down. The offensive woes carried over into the second half.

Kahir Raymond finished with two interceptions and his defensive backfield partner Jalen Harris added one, as well.  The Ramblers pushed the lead larger in the third when junior fullback Dwayne Sharpe scampered 57 yards for a score.

The fourth quarter saw Golino run in for a five yard touchdown, and James Henderson would shape the final score with a three-yard run.
