Devon Fowlkes converted a turnover into a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to help the J.P. Stevens High School team snap a 20-game losing streak against Greater Middlesex Conference foes with a 23-14 victory over North Brunswick on Friday night.

Fowlkes’ 16-yard scoring run came immediately after Jared Martinez recovered a fumble. The turnover was created by Javon Scott, who sacked the opposing quarterback.

Earlier in the game, Martinez recovered a fumble in the end zone on a bad snap off a punt attempt to give the Hawks (1-3) a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Raiders (0-4) forged a 6-6 tie on Christian Petrillo’s 11-yard touchdown pass with 11:42 remaining in the opening half.

Petrillo threw an 88-yard touchdown pass with 1:57 left in the second quarter as North Brunswick took a 14-6 lead.

Quian Muse returned the ensuing kickoff 88 yards to help the Hawks forge a 14-14 tie.

Fowlkes preserved the halftime deadlock with an interception in the end zone.

Midway through the third quarter, J.P. Stevens stuffed North Brunswick on a fourth down at the Hawks’ 20 yard line. The Raiders got the ball back on an interception at their 2-yard line early in the fourth quarter.

J.P. Stevens took a 16-14 lead on a safety with 10:13 left in the game.
