Monroe High School varsity girls soccer team traveled down RT 1 to take on South Brunswick on Tuesday September 13, 2016.

1. East Brunswick (4-0)Last week No. 1: The Bears had a tough initial schedule, but East Brunswick emerged undefeated and battle-tested. The top team in the Red Division outscored Wardlaw-Hartridge, Old Bridge and Monroe by a combined score of 9-2. Sabria Glasgow has fueled the offense with six goals and four assists while Jessica DiMatteo (four goals) and Katrina Nguyen-Demary (five assists) have created balance up top.

2. South Brunswick (2-2)Last week No. 2: The Vikings held on for a tough 3-1 victory over Monroe on Tuesday, but that win was sandwiched by losses to Red Division rivals Old Bridge and Piscataway. They’ve been inconsistent to start the season, but the Vikings are still one of the teams to beat in the division. Adrianna Mouzakis leads South Brunswick with five goals.

3. Piscataway (4-0)Last week No. 9: Somewhat of a surprise, Piscataway has outscored its four opponents 14-5 in the early going. The Chiefs upset Monroe and South Brunswick in the first week of the season and are proving they could be a dark horse in the chase for the Red Division title. Kaitlyn Zeeb has scored four goals while sisters Lela Allen (three goals, three assists) and Jordyn Allen (two goals, two assists) have been spectacular.

4. Bishop Ahr (4-0)Last week No. 4: After tough graduation losses, the Trojans proved they’re still the premier team of the White Division with a 1-0 victory over Woodbridge on Thursday. They’ve scored 14 goals thus far and have yet to give up a goal. Sarah Glazewski scored the lone goal against Woodbridge and has scored three times on the season to lead the team.

5. Woodbridge (3-1)Last week No. 5: Thursday’s loss to Bishop Ahr is the only blemish on the young season for Woodbridge. The Barrons have outscored their opponents 12-1 in their three other games. Gabby D’Emilio leads the team with four goals and last season’s star striker Jordan Vazquez has shined in her new role as goalkeeper, tallying 21 saves thus far.

6. Old Bridge (3-2)Previously unranked: An outsider looking in last season, Old Bridge has already made some noise in the Red Division, topping South Brunswick 3-0 on opening day. The Knights have posted shutouts in all three of their victories. Nichole Adams has led the Knights on offense with four goals and two assists.

7. Wardlaw-Hartridge (4-1)Last week No. 7: The Rams have taken care of business in the Blue Division, but their only loss came against East Brunswick last weekend. They’re next test against the Red Division comes this Saturday against South Brunswick. The Ram offense has been potent with Mia Reyes (six goals, six assists) and Sofia Ambrosio (five goals, three assists) leading the way.

8. Edison (2-2)Previously unranked: After dropping its first two games to Woodbridge and Bishop Ahr, the Eagles rebounded nicely with victories against Perth Amboy and Sayreville. Felicia Forsythe has been one of the top goal scorers in the GMC thus far, scoring six times. Goalkeeper Kendra Candido has made 27 saves.

9. Sayreville (3-1)Last week No. 10: Sayreville posted three shutouts in its first three games this season, but that streak came to an end with a 3-2 loss to Edison on Saturday. The Bombers will face off against one of the titans of the White Division in Woodbridge on Thursday. Lauren Attardi has scored four goals and Erin Wimmer has added three of her own.

10. Metuchen (3-2)Last week No. 8: The Bulldogs defeated Blue Division foe Spotswood 2-1 on Friday, but fell to first place Wardlaw-Hartridge 7-2 last Saturday. Mya Stolarski has been on fire offensively, scoring seven goals and tallying four assists in the early going.

Also receiving consideration: Colonia (3-2)

Dropped from the rankings: Monroe (0-4), Spotswood (3-2)
