BOYS BASKETBALL

GMC Tournament first round

Perth Amboy 59, Sayreville 55: Joshua Cabezudo scored 22 points to pace 12th-seeded Perth Amboy (11-12). Emmanuel Lora finished with 12 points. For fifth-seeded Sayreville (16-7), Zaire Jackson led with 13 points. Kaime Byers chipped in nine points. Perth Amboy will play fourth-seeded Carteret in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Bishop Ahr 61, North Brunswick 56: Quadry Adams recorded a double-double for sixth-seeded Bishop Ahr (17-4) with 17 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and one assist. Alex Santiago finished with 15 points and two steals. Jalen Brooks added 12 points, seven rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Avery Claggett led No. 11 North Brunswick (11-10) with 15 points. Maneet Batra scored 14 points. 

Carteret 61, East Brunswick 52: Jahlil Nix led fourth-seeded Carteret (19-4) with 23 points, six rebounds and three assists. Malik Austin finished with nine points, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. Isaiah Daniels-Porter added eight points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Travis Cumber scored 14 points for No. 13 East Brunswick (10-12). Joe Sampson contributed 12 points and Jesse Perel scored 11 points. 

Edison 62, Timothy Christian 55: Abu Kaikai finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal to lead ninth-seeded Edison (15-10). Paul Rago posted 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Alkeim Raines added 12 points, eight assists and three rebounds. Pierce Kokosinski scored a game-high 23 points for eighth-seeded Timothy Christian (15-8). Robert Saydee scored 21 points. Edison will play top-seeded St. Joseph (Met.) in the quarterfinals. 

Old Bridge 58, J.P. Stevens 53: Julius Belton scored 17 points to lift third-seeded Old Bridge (17-6). Mike Oliva finished with 16 points and Ryan Delacuesta contributed 11 points. Tyrese Conover led No. 14 J.P. Stevens (10-12) with 15 points. Rohan Rao scored 13 points and Kasi Hazzard added 11 points. Old Bridge will play sixth-seeded Bishop Ahr in the quarterfinals. 

St. Joseph (Met.) 62, Monroe 42: Howard McBurnie and K-Shawn Schulters each scored 14 points for top-seeded St. Joseph (18-4). Luke Fresco chipped in 13 points. For No. 16 Monroe (7-16), Fritz Frage led with 14 points and Michael Kides scored 13 points. 

Piscataway 71, Spotswood 43: Robert Terry scored 12 points to lead second-seeded Piscataway (20-2). Mattias Arrindell and Keshawn Grant each recorded 11 points. For No. 15 Spotswood (14-10), Matt Vento led with 15 points. Piscataway will play seventh-seeded Colonia in the quarterfinals. 

Somerset County Tournament first round

Bound Brook 84, Somerset Tech 60: Jayden Hill recorded a double-double for 10th-seeded Bound Brook (15-9) with 21 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Jassiem Moore also had a double-double with 16 points, 14 assists, seven rebounds and four steals. Kyle Frauenheim finished with 23 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. For No. 15 Somerset Tech (8-15), Elijah Bowers led with 30 points. Aamon Sparrow scored 14 points and Norbert Malik added 10 points. Bound Brook will travel to No. 7 Ridge in the second round on Saturday.

Hillsborough 66, Pingry 50: Ryan McCaffery posted 13 points to lead No. 11 Hillsborough (8-15). Matt Moore and Patrick Vinchur each scored 10 points. Pingry fell to 4-18. Hillsborough will travel to sixth-seeded Bernards in the second round on Saturday.

North Plainfield 81, Somerville 71: Tony Godwin scored a game-high 33 points to pace No. 13 North Plainfield (10-13). Sean Taylor finished with 25 points and David McNaught contributed 11 points. For 12th-seeded Somerville (8-16), Ethan Hilliman (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Chris Elwood (17 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded a double-double. Kevin Sokol added 15 points and four rebounds. Kyle Rolon chipped in 10 points and four rebounds. North Plainfield will play fifth-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan on Saturday.

Regular season

Immaculata 71, Delaware Valley 39: TJ Schneider led Immaculata (11-12) with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. James Cummins finished with 12 points and six rebounds. BJ Honis scored nine points. For Delaware Valley (11-11), Brandon Bernhardt recorded 14 points. 

Dunellen 67, South River 63: Tyje Kelton recorded a double-double for Dunellen (14-9) with 34 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks, four steals and three assists. Drew Johnson contributed 15 points, six rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal. Derrick Whitaker led South River (14-9) with 19 points. Michael DeSantis scored 14 points and RJ Fischer scored 11 points. 

Montgomery 53, Bernards 48 (OT): Kevin Fromelt led Montgomery (14-9) with 17 points. Kyle Howard finished with 13 points and Riley Greene recorded 12 points. Cubby Schuller scored a game-high 23 points for Bernards (16-4). Owen Loughlin added 11 points. 

Roselle Park 49, Metuchen 47: Amari Whitehead scored 20 points for Metuchen (8-16). Sohan Ullal added seven points. 

Rutgers Prep 65, Bridgewater-Raritan 57: Zach Martini recorded a double-double for Rutgers Prep (12-8) with 16 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. Richie Greaves finished with 21 points, three assists, three steals and one rebound. Trey Patterson contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block. Aaron Gao scored a game-high 29 points for Bridgewater-Raritan (12-10). Sterling White added 17 points. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Somerset County Tournament first round

Bernards 40, Hillsborough 28: Down 26-22 after the third quarter, No. 12 Bernards (16-5) rallied behind eight points from Jenna McHale and outscored No. 13 Hillsborough 18-2 to pull out the win. Jenna Whalen and Abby Cawley each finished with nine points and 11 rebounds for the Crusaders, who will travel to fifth-seeded Gill St. Bernard's in the second round on Saturday. Annie Thomas added eight points and four steals. For Hillsborough (8-13), Elissa Nsenkyire scored nine points. 

Ridge 56, Manville 11: Maddy West and Sammy Weyrauch each scored 10 points to lead 10th-seeded Ridge (14-10). Lauren Lusardi added nine points. For No. 15 Manville (11-13), Zytajsha Abner finished with seven points, seven rebounds, four steals, two blocks and one assist. Ridge will face seventh-seeded Montgomery on Saturday. 

Pingry 75, Somerset Tech 31: Kelsey Ransom recorded a triple-double with 39 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals and three assists for ninth-seeded Pingry (16-6). Megan Horn finished with 12 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals. For No. 16 Somerset Tech (10-12), Kala Wright posted 10 points, five rebounds and one steal. Rebeka Quagliato added eight points, two assists and one steal. Pingry will travel to eighth-seeded Somerville in the second round. 

Mount St. Mary 36, Immaculata 17: Maria Jaeckel scored 12 points to lift No. 11 Mount St. Mary (16-6). Alana Rocco recorded 11 points, five rebounds and five steals. Naiya Jefferson and Tara Ryan each scored five points for Immaculata (4-19). Mount St. Mary will face sixth-seeded Bound Brook on Saturday.

Regular season 

Somerville 43, North Hunterdon 38: Christina Cernuto led Somerville (17-5) with 18 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Emily Markowski finished with 11 points, four rebounds, five steals, two blocks and one assist. Meghan Douglas contributed six points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Aniya Stevenson scored 17 points for North Hunterdon (5-17).

Delaware Valley 57, Mendham 40: Margaret Affeld scored a career-high 33 points, including five 3s, to lead Delaware Valley (15-7). Allison Scheier finished with 10 points. Amanda Kix scored nine points on three 3-pointers. 

Bridgewater-Raritan 56, Warren Hills 43: Keiko Fox finished with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, for Bridgewater-Raritan (15-6). Meghan Ball scored 12 points. Katie Kowal added nine points.

New Brunswick 47, Highland Park 22: Aniyah Thomas led New Brunswick (10-12) with 19 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Nakima Lue recorded seven points, 13 steals, five rebounds and four assists. Ciara McFarlane finished with 10 rebounds, six points, six steals and one assist. Mariela Hernandez added 12 rebounds and two points. For Highland Park (1-20), Uchechi Odikanawa scored 10 points and Aiya Underwood chipped in eight points. 

Keyport 49, Dunellen 43: Alison McGrath finished with 23 points, four steals, three rebounds, one assist and one block for Dunellen (10-12). Erin Barnett added eight points, five rebounds, two steals and one block.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood 47, Rahway 43: Nya Downing posted 15 points, three reounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals for Scotch Plains-Fanwood (13-8). Abbe-Gayle Burton finished with eight points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists. Corrinne Lyght recorded six points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Wil'Lisha Jackson scored a game-high 22 points for Rahway (2-19). Taylor Williams added 10 points. 

Arts 58, Watchung Hills 49: Mahogany Jenkins recorded a double-double for Watchung Hills (19-2) with 10 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and one block. Julia Cunningham finished with 13 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals. Scarett Glasser-Nehls added 13 points, three rebounds and three assists. 

Ranney 24, Mother Seton 19: Gabby Alexandre finished with five points, three rebounds and two steals for Mother Seton (1-15). Brielle Robinson contributed five rebounds and three points. 

ICE HOCKEY

Somerset County Tournament semifinals

Pingry 6, Hunterdon Central 2: Joe Faccone and Eric Bush each recorded one goal and one assist as second-seeded Pingry (14-3-1) advanced to the Somerset County Tournament final. Nick Spinelli, Austin Parsons, James Cummings and George Enman also scored. Daniel Schnack added two assists. Peter Papadopoulos, Ryan Bush, Cal McPherson and Jared Kordonsky each had one assist. For third-seeded Hunterdon Central (12-7-3), Richard Stefanik finished with one goal and one assist. Erik Szanto also scored. Scott Poltz and Scott Schnell each added assists. Pingry will face top-seeded Ridge in the final on Saturday.
