GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament second round

Delaware Valley 36, North Hunterdon 16: Margaret Affeld scored 19 points and Kelsey Crawford added six points and sixth-seeded Delaware Valley advanced. The Terriers will play host to 15th-seeded Voorhees in next Saturday’s quarterfinals. Maria Newsome scored five points for No. 11 seed North Hunterdon.

Voorhees 58, Kittatinny 42: Bella Cafaro lit it up for 20 points and 10 rebounds and Katie McCombs added 14 points and 15th-seeded Voorhees scored the upset, toppling the No. 3 seed. Sydney Collins chipped in 10 points for the Vikings, who will visit sixth-seeded Delaware Valley next Saturday.

Hunterdon Central 59, Wallkill Valley 9: Peyton McNally tallied 12 points and five steals, and Danielle Cornetta also scored 12 points to boost seventh-seeded Hunterdon Central. Hannah Sholehvar added 10 points for the Red Devils, who visit second-seeded Warren Hills in next Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Regular season

Pingry 45, Hillsborough 36: Megan Horn tallied 17 points and seven rebounds, and Alyson Feeley added 16 points and 11 boards as Pingry snapped a two-game losing streak. Olivia Volpe chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds for the Big Blue (11-6). Dani Pescatore scored 15 points to pace Hillsborough (7-11).

Bernards 44, South Hunterdon 29: Jenna Scarpa scored 14 points and Bridget Cawley chipped in 11 points to send Bernards (12-4). Nicole Costantini scored eight points to pace South Hunterdon (3-15).

Bishop Ahr 60, New Brunswick 30: Emma Boslet tallied 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as Bishop Ahr won its 20th. Megan Herka added eight points and seven boards and Sara Decker chipped in eight points and six rebounds for the Trojans (20-1). Aniyah Thomas recorded a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two assists for New Brunswick (7-10).

North Brunswick 35, Colonia 23: Cynthia Williams posted 10 points and Khayla Flemmings and Tara Jenkins each scored eight points for North Brunswick (10-8). Alexis Banko and Kaitlynn Kelly each netted eight points to lead Colonia (3-14).

Mount St. Mary 45, Butler 26: Abby Stout notched 13 points and 10 rebounds and Gina Neigel also delivered a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists and Mount St. Mary improved to 11-6. Alana Rocco chipped in nine points in the victory.

Manville 54, Sussex Tech 38: Holly Cornelson poured in 24 points and Zytajsa Abner collected five points, six blocks and 26 rebounds and Manville rolled. Sioni Robinson contributed nine points and rebounds for the Mustangs (9-10).

Union Catholic 39, Linden 27: Izzy DiDario posted nine points and five rebounds and Gabrielle Welle added nine points and four assists to power Union Catholic (11-5). Renee Rocha notched nine points and eight rebounds for Linden (7-8).

Ridge 40, Spotswood 22: Sammy Weyruach scored 11 points, and Sophie Beneventine and Ava Hailback each netted nine points to move Ridge to 11-8. Maddie Hellerich’s 10 points and Erin Malin’s eight points and five rebounds led Spotswood (14-5).

J.P. Stevens 44, Perth Amboy 23: Megan Duffy posted 14 points and Kayla Gatling added six points and 10 rebounds to propel J.P. Stevens (13-6). McKayla Duffy chipped in nine points for the Hawks. Zaniera James scored 10 points and Angelica Holguin netted eight points for the Panthers (1-15).

South Brunswick 48, Edison 40: Onoseta Ufuah scored 21 points and Sydney Coleman chipped in 10 points to spark South Brunswick (10-8). Samira Sargent nettee 16 points and Lourdes Marasigan tossed in 11 points for Edison (8-11).

Sayreville 61, Woodbridge 54: Jackie Ventricelli netted 23 points, and Stephanie Van Note and Serina Townes each chipped in 14 points as Sayreville improved to 12-7. Kameron De Vogd and Brooke Timinski each scored 20 points for the Barrons (11-7), with De Vogd adding six rebounds and five blocks and Timinski chipping in five rebounds and five assists.

High Point 45, Somerville 34: Meghan Douglas tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds and Kelsey Mehan added 10 points, six boards and six assists, but short-handed Somerville fell to 16-4.

Governor Livingston 44, Union 37: Skylar Dowling scored 19 points to lead Governor Livingston (7-10).

Franklin 65, Roselle Catholic 46: Diamond Miller dropped in 28 points and grabbed five rebounds as Franklin (11-7) rolled. Tiana Jackson chipped in 12 points and Keona Schenck added 11 points in the victory.

Rutgers Prep 63, Trenton Catholic 51: Leilani Correa scored 26 points and Isabella Pellecchia added nine points as Rutgers Prep improved to 15-3.

Immaculata 49, Middlesex 32: Tara Ryan scored 12 points and nabbed eight rebounds and Margo Cherry chipped in 10 points and seven boards to fuel Immaculata (4-15). Abby Gilbert returned to the lineup with nine points and 12 boards for the Spartans. Brianna Montajes scored 14 points to pace Middlesex.

Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament second round

North Hunterdon 66, South Hunterdon 43: Michael DelSantro led the way with 13 points and Paul Woolhouse added 12 points and 12 rebounds as sixth-seeded North Hunterdon rolled into the quarterfinals. Nick Guasta chipped in 11 points and eight boards and Wes Reinagel scored 10 points for the Lions, who will face third-seeded Hackettstown or 14th-seeded Lenape Valley next Saturday. Eric Myers scored 16 points and Joe Armstrong added 13 points to pace 11th-seeded South Hunterdon.

Newton 53, Delaware Valley 39: Brandon Bernhardt scored 17 points, but 13th-seeded Delaware Valley was eliminated by the No. 4 seed.

Regular season

Linden 62, Quality Education Academy (NC) 42: Mikey Watkins scored 18 points, including his 1,000th career point, and finished with eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals for Linden (14-4). Tavon Jones recorded a double-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Amir Williams chipped in eight points, nine rebounds and one assist. 

South River 69, Piscataway Tech 65: Derrick Whitaker dropped in 25 points and pulled down five rebounds to propel South River (12-6). Joseph Nigro added 14 points and Jayvon Taylor notched 13 points in the victory. Daniel Peacock scored 20 points and Braden Barnes added 16 points for the Raiders (15-5).

Old Bridge 56, Monroe 51: Julius Benton scored 25 points and Chris Wyer added 14 points to send Old Bridge (14-5). Mike Oliva helped out with 11 points for the Knights. The Falcons fell to 5-14.

Edison 55, Freehold Boro 49: Abu Kaikai posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Jaymin Vakharia added 11 points to fuel Edison (12-9). Christian Wantong and Thomas Johnson each chipped in 10 points for the Eagles.

Bridgewater-Raritan 68, Timothy Christian 51: Dan Banz scored 15 points, Sterling White notched 14 points and Aaron Gao netted 13 points as Bridgewater-Raritan improved to 9-8. Robert Saydee scored 19 points and Pierce Kokosinski tallied 14 points for Timothy Christian (14-6).

New Providence 61, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 57 (2 OTs): Brian Kelly notched 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Sean Dillon scored 13 points as New Providence won in overtime. Dylan Bedder posted 12 points and 13 rebounds and Richie Wawzycki added 11 points for the Pioneers (15-3). Tommy Drubulis scored 16 points and Lamont Cruse tallied 10 points to pace Scotch Plains-Fanwood (15-3).

Sayreville 59, Woodbridge 44: Juijuan Macklin scored 15 points, Elijah Clark added 14 points and Zaire Jackson netted 13 points to fuel Sayreville (13-6). Curtis Nesbit scored 19 points to pace Woodbridge (10-8).

Colonia 56, North Brunswick 44: Kristian Chapmann scored 16 points and Connor Bevilacqua notched 12 points to help Colonia (14-8). Luke Valeriano added 10 points in the win. Maneet Batra scored 12 points to pace North Brunswick (8-9).

Hillsborough 53, Plainfield 39: Justin Brown scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds and Jackson Parham collected eight points, 14 rebounds and five assists to fuel Hillsborough (6-12). The Cardinals are 7-12.

New Brunswick 59, Hillside 51: Ahyan Brown-Miller scored 22 points and nabbed six rebounds to help New Brunswick improve to 6-11. Tahjay Moore chipped in 10 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Zebras.

Piscataway 66, East Brunswick 53: Antonio Chandler scored 31 points and Jordan Davidson added 12 for Piscataway (17-2). Travis Crumber scored 13 points and Xavier Fitzgerald posted 10 points for East Brunswick (9-9).

Trenton Catholic 65, Rutgers Prep 48: Nate Lyles tallied nine points and six rebounds and Nashon Battle posted nine points and five rebounds, but Rutgers Prep fell to 10-6. Zach Martini added seven points, seven rebounds and two assists. 

St. Joseph (Met.) 66, South Brunswick 55: Luke Fresco led St. Joseph (16-3) with 14 points. Tyree Taganeca-Ford, Andrew Olden and Howard McBurnie each added eight points. Devin Strickland scored 21 points for South Brunswick (0-16). Akhil Edekar finished with nine points. 

Rahway 57, Oratory 39: Nick Galette scored 18 points to pace Rahway (17-1). Keyshawn Cummings finished with 16 points. 

ICE HOCKEY

Nottingham 5, Edison 2: Pawel Stalenyj and Jakob Cherry scored for Edison (0-20-1). Ryan Doyle and Jake DeVito each had one assist. Parker McKenna made 25 saves and William Dominic finished with five saves. 

Watchung Hills 4, Bernards 1: Michael Ciampa, Liam Feeley, Gio Falk and Mitch McHugh all scored for Watchung Hills (4-14-1). Andrew Ecklemann and Michael Brady each had one assist. Shane Connors made 13 saves. For Bernards (4-16-1), Ryan McGriskin scored on assists from Jason Stitt and Nick Emmons. Andrew O'Donnell made 25 saves.
