Hillsborough's Moore is CN Fall Sports Athlete of Year

Hillsborough gymnast Jocelyn Moore is the Courier News Fall Sports Athlete of the Year.

Hillsborough High School gymnast Jocelyn Moore was voted the Courier News/MyCentralJersey.com’s Fall Sports Athlete of the Year.

The freshman, who led the Raiders to their fourth consecutive county tournament title and fourth-straight Central Jersey Section 2 championship, received 8,314 (or 51.82 percent) of the 16,044 total votes cast in an online poll featuring eight candidates.

Moore received a commemorative trophy, courtesy of MyCentralJersey.com, which was recently presented to the exceptional student-athlete at the high school.

The pool of Fall Sports Athlete of the Year nominees consisted of Courier News Athletes of the Year in eight sports.

They included Rachel Tam (Ridge volleyball), Abby Cawley (Bernards field hockey), Erin Keefe (Ridge girls soccer), Nikki Vanasse (Pingry girls cross country), Dom Demcak (Bridgewater-Raritan boys soccer), Rhea Shrivastava (Montgomery tennis), and Chris Romero (Voorhees boys cross county).

This season, Moore was a catalyst for the Hillsborough gymnastics team. At the Somerset County Championships, which the Raiders won for the fourth-straight year, Moore took third in the all-around with 37.775, and finished first in the floor exercise (9.625), vault (9.75) and uneven bars (9.45).

Moore then delivered a key performance at the Skyland Conference Championships, leading Hillsborough to the title. She finished first in the all-around with 38.4 points, with first place finishes in the vault and balance beam. She took second in the floor exercise and fourth on the uneven bars. 

Hillsborough then went on to win its fourth-straight Central Section II title as Moore and Samantha Ringel tied for first in the all-around with a 37.6. Moore also took first in the vault and floor exercise. 

Moore also played a pivotal role in the Raiders placing fourth at the NJSIAA team championships.

"It's great, I'm proud of my accomplishments," Moore said of her award. "It was a great fall, a great first experience and this award is representative of the hard work and learning that went on."
