SKYLAND CONFERENCE

DELAWARE DIVISION

BRIDGEWATER-RARITAN

Coach: Gene McAteer, 10th season

Last season: 20-8, Somerset County Tournament semifinalist, North 2 Group IV semifinalist.

Letterwinners: 8 returning, 5 lost

Roster: Aaron Gao (Sr., G, 6-2, 14.8 ppg., 3.1 apg.); Sterling White (Sr., G, 6-0, 13.4 ppg., 5.7 rpg.).

Outlook: The class of 2017 did all of the "dirty work" last winter for Bridgewater-Raritan as they were a tight knit group that played very well together. Questions about this year's team include where will the defense, the passing, the rebounding and team leadership come from? Aaron Gao and Sterling White can score, but are they and the rest of the class of 2018 ready to do all the little things behind the scenes that contribute to a winning team? The Panthers are striving for their eighth-straight winning season this year.

FRANKLIN

Coach: Corey Floyd, fourth season

Last season: 6-18

Roster: Dominic Bacallo-Wright (Jr.); Joshua Gestosani (Jr.); Matthew Xi (Jr.); Jared Williams (Jr.); Trevin Midgette (Jr.); DeWarren Watkins (So.).

Outlook: This season's success will depend on how well Franklin plays team defense and offense. The goal is to get better every day, especially at the defensive end. The players will need to stick together as a team through the adversity that will come with a long season. Team speed and quickness should be a strength.

GILL ST. BERNARD'S

Coach: Mergin Sena, 14th season

Last season: 25-4, Somerset County Tournament champions, South Non-Public B semifinalist.

Roster: Khalif Battle (Jr., G, 6-4); Paul Mulcahy (Jr., PG, 6-6); Alex Schachne (Sr., PG, 5-10); Brad Bundschuh (Sr., F, 6-8); TJ Chaney (Sr., G, 5-10); Will Yarbrough (Sr., G, 5-11); Will Soucie (So., G, 6-4); John Yoss (Sr., G, 5-11); Peter Sorber (Jr., F, 6-8); Daniel Wang (Sr., F, 5-10).

Outlook: Gill St. Bernard's is primed for another strong run in the Skyland Conference this season. With the return of Paul Mulcahy (15 ppg., 8.8 rpg., 5.9 apg.) and Alex Schachne (11.8 ppg., 4.2 rpg., 5.5 apg.) and the addition of Khalif Battle from Trenton Catholic, along a group of talented underclassmen, look for the Knights to defend their SCT Tournament title and make a run in the state tournament.

HILLSBOROUGH

Coach: Scott Kallens, first season

Last season: 8-16

Letterwinners: 9 returning, 4 lost

Roster: Tim Yost (Sr., PG, 5-8); David Yost (Sr., G, 5-10); Jackson Parham (Sr., F, 6-2); Justin Brown (Sr., F, 6-5); Aron Lauan (Sr., F, 6-2); Pat Vinchur (Sr., G/F, 6-2); Ryan McCaffery (Sr., G/F, 6-1); Gary Redden Jr. (Sr., F, 6-2); Matthew Moore (Sr., G, 6-0); Alex Schultz (Sr., F, 6-4); Raj Patel (Sr., F, 6-3); Dante Walker (Jr., G, 5-10).

Outlook: Coach Scott Kallens takes over after six seasons of coaching the JV boys and girls basketball teams. Kallens graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson, where he played Division III basketball for two seasons. Hillsborough has endured two consecutive losing seasons, but boasts a roster that includes 11 returning players. The team is ready, willing and able to do whatever is necessary to reach its full potential. The players have embraced the challenge, enjoy hard work and understand the importance of taking advantage of each day and not making excuses. The Raiders hold each other accountable and understand the kind of effort and focus that is necessary for them to reach their full potential. Kallens' expectation for the season is to continue to foster an environment for growth, so the team can become the very best it can be.

RIDGE

Coach: Brian Feath, seventh season

Last season: 11-15

Letterwinners: 7 returning, 2 lost (Aidan Murphy, Alex Alano).

Roster: Chris Feringa (Sr., F, 6-5, 9 ppg.); Jeremy McCavera (Sr., F, 6-3, 7 ppg.); Curtis Lyons (Jr., G, 6-2, 6 ppg.); Jake Herrera (Sr., F, 6-3, 6 ppg.); Mike Demarco (Jr., G, 6-0); Nate Herrera (So., G, 5-10); Mike Zima (Jr., F, 6-5); Roger Faustin (Jr., F, 6-0).

Outlook: Ridge returns a number of players from last year's team and boast a lot of size. The team is skilled, experienced and unselfish and will look to build on last season's record and compete every game.

RUTGERS PREP

Coach: Matt Bloom, first season

Last season: 15-11, Somerset County Tournament finalist, South Non-Public B semifinalist.

Roster: Nate Lyles (Sr., G/F, 6-5); Chris Phillips (Sr., G, 5-9); Nahshon Battle (Jr., G, 6-2); Jonah Charles (Jr., G, 6-3); Lucas Green (Jr., G, 6-3); Jassiem Moore (Jr., G, 6-1); Kaylen Oweh (Jr., G/F, 6-3); Bryce Dupree (So., G, 5-10); Richie Greaves (So., G, 6-0); Zach Martini (So., F/C, 6-7); Alvari Mhya (So., G, 6-1); Noah Harris (Fr., G, 6-1); Trey Patterson (Fr., G/F, 6-8); Kyle Rhoden (Fr., F, 6-8).

Outlook: Rutgers Prep will be a young but talented group as it only returns two seniors from last year, Nate Lyles and Chris Phillips. The returning junior class is deep with returning starters, including Jonah Charles and Nahshon Battle. The sophomore class includes two transfers from St. Joseph (Met.), Zach Martini and Richie Greaves. The freshmen class is led by Trey Patterson, Noah Harris and Kyle Rhoden. First year coach Matt Bloom spent the last six years on the basketball staff at La Salle University, which included a run to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2013. Before La Salle, Bloom was a member of Fred Hill's staff at Rutgers and also worked at the Monroe Sports Center, the HoopGroup and the New Jersey Nets.

RARITAN DIVISION

HUNTERDON CENTRAL

Coach: Mike Falco, sixth season

Last season: 26-4, Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament champions, Central Group IV champions, Group IV semifinalist.

Outlook: Hunterdon Central will have solid depth this season and will look for contributions from different players each night. The Red Devils hope to be competitive and will look to grow and play their best basketball in February and March.

IMMACULATA

Coach: Ryan McKeever, fifth season

Last season: 15-12

Letterwinners: 8 returning, 4 lost (TJ Kerwin, Brock Manning, Greg Carolan-Belvin).

Roster: Jared Chambliss (Sr., G/F, 19 ppg.); BJ Honis (Sr., G, 12 ppg.); Matt Lynch (Sr., G); Stephen Dwyer (Sr., F); Luke Medley (Sr., F); Nick Jalandoni (Jr., G); TJ Schneider (Jr., G); James Cummins (Jr., F); AJ Sepulveda (So., G/F); Jaden Honis (So., G); Jordan Myers (So., F); Joe Oliveri (Jr., G); Kevin Ford (Jr., F).

Outlook: Immaculata returns four starters, led by First Team All-County selection Jared Chamblis. BJ Honis is back to run the team, while Stephen Dwyer (a three-sport athlete) is athletic and big and can really get up and down the court. Matt Lynch will compliment Honis at the guard position. The Spartans are very deep this season with a lot of players coming off a great year. The team goal is to compete for 32 minutes every single night. If Immaculata can do that and mix in the experience it has coming back, it should be a fun season.

Hunterdon Central's Anthony McDowell (13) drives to the basket against Freehold Twp. on March 7, 2017.

MONTGOMERY

Coach: Kris Grundy, 14th season

Last season: 11-15

Letterwinners: 8 returning, 6 lost (Matt Remsen, Matt Summers, Danny Engels).

Roster: Aaron Thomas (Sr., F/C, 6-3); Mack Bloom (Sr., G, 6-4); Lawrence Levy (Sr., G, 6-3); Kevin Fromelt (Jr., G, 6-3); Kyle Howard (Jr., G, 6-2); Joe Elicone (Jr., F, 6-2); Riley Greene (Jr., G, 6-0); Rohan Prakash (Jr., F/C, 6-7); Andrew D'Avino (Jr., G, 5-6); Will Marrapodi (Jr., G, 5-7); Ben Heubach (Jr., G, 6-0); Anthony Bellavia (Jr., F, 6-0).

Outlook: With eight returning players with varsity experience, Montgomery will look to play hard this season and improve every game behind the leadership of senior captains Aaron Thomas, Mack Bloom and Lawrence Levy.

NORTH HUNTERDON

Coach: Kyle Rehrig, eighth season

Last season: 11-13

Letterwinners: 9 returning, 6 lost

Roster: Xander Braun (Sr., F); Ahman Cooks (Sr., G, 6.3 ppg.); Michael DelSantro (Sr., G, 12.8 ppg.); Jack Malley (Sr., F); Ryan Miceli (Sr., F); Paul Woolhouse (Sr., F, 9.7 ppg.); Nick Guasta (Jr., F, 7.6 ppg.); Chris Hale (Jr., G); Wes Reinagel (So., G, 7.6 ppg.); Matt Chang (Sr., G); Evan Saraceno (Sr., F); Luke Hannon (Jr., G); Chris Markovich (Fr., G).

Outlook: North Hunterdon is looking to compete for the division and county tournament titles, as well as advance into the state tournament. The seniors are providing leadership, led by Michael DelSantro and Paul Woolhouse. The Lions are looking to get contributions from everyone on the roster in some way throughout the year.

WATCHUNG HILLS

Coach: Justin Salton, 10th season

Last season: 12-14

Roster: Michael Bressler (So., G, 5-4); Steven Bressler (Sr., G, 5-6, 10.4 ppg., 3.3 rpg.); Gavin DeFuria (Sr., G, 6-1); Connor Dube (Jr., G, 5-11); Jack Dwyer (So., F, 6-3); Mike Hopwood (Sr., F, 6-0); Chad Martini (Fr., F, 6-6); Thomas Parker (Sr., F, 6-2); Dan Pilsbury (Sr., G, 6-4, 16 ppg., 6.7 rpg.); Brad Pinho (Jr., G, 5-8); Lucas Stasil (Jr., G, 5-8).

Outlook: The Warriors come into the season with plenty of experience and tremendous team chemistry. If Watchung Hills can rebound, take care of the ball and find consistent team scoring, it will find itself with great opportunity for a quality year in a extremely tough conference. This team features an array of players that are dangerous and can hurt opponents with their shooting and craftiness around the rim.

VALLEY DIVISION

BOUND BROOK

Coach: Anthony Melesurgo, 14th season

Last season: 21-8, Central Group I finalist, Somerset County Tournament quarterfinalist.

Letterwinners: 2 returning, 8 lost (Evian Brown, Noah Smith, Jaq Tedder, Bryan Camelo, EJ Vargas, Tyson Amaker, Cardel Wiggins).

Roster: Kyle Frauenheim (Sr., G, 6-2); RJ Frazier (Jr., G, 5-11); Ben Albarracin (Jr., G, 5-9); Pete O'Connor (Sr., F, 6-5); David LePodivan (Jr., F, 6-3); Jayden Hull (Sr., F, 6-2); Jason Cuba (Sr., G, 5-10); Tyere Robinson (So., G, 6-0); Davie McLarty (Fr., G, 6-0); Tejuan Johnson (Jr., G, 5-9).

Outlook: After making two-straight appearances in the Central Group I final for the first time in school history, Bound Brook lost a lot to graduation. Being a small Group I school in the upper division of the Skyland Conference will pose a challenge every night. Coach Anthony Melesurgo makes sure the schedule will get the team ready for March as the Crusaders will face Bridgewater-Raritan, Immaculata and some other tough out of conference teams.

DELAWARE VALLEY

Coach: Mike DePaolo, second season

Last season: 18-9, Valley Division champions, Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament finalist.

Letterwinners: 7 returning, 7 lost

Roster: Joe Cansfield (Jr., PG, 6-1, 8.6 ppg., 2.8 rpg., 5.1 apg., 2.3 spg.); Brendan Bernhardt (Sr., G, 6-3, 9.1 ppg., 3.4 rpg.); Matt DiGuardia (Sr., G, 2.4 ppg.); Jack Skibinski (Jr., G, 6-4); Vinny Giordano (Jr., F, 6-3); Andy Panfile (Jr., G, 6-1; Brett Godown (Jr., G, 6-1); Nic DeMarco (So., G, 6-0); Tylor Blake (So., F, 6-3).

Outlook: Behind captains Joe Cansfield, Brendan Burnhardt and Matt DiGuardia, Delaware Valley expects to build on last year's success and remain competitive from the first game until the season ends. The goals this season are to repeat as Valley Division champions, get back to the county final and make a run in the state tournament. There are a number of first-year varsity players on the team this season, but they have been practicing with last year's seniors and saw how hard they need to work in order to be successful. Coach Mike DPaolo expects the captains to show the younger players what they need to do in order to repeat as division champs and make another run.

Bound Brook's Noah Smith (11) defends against Delaware Valley's Joe Cansfield on Jan. 31, 2017.

SOMERVILLE

Coach: Tim Ortelli, first season

Last season: 7-17

Letterwinners: 4 returning, 4 lost

Roster: Chris Elwood (Sr., C, 6-6); Kevin Sokol (Jr., G/F, 6-4); DaShaun Smith (Jr., G, 5-11); Kyree Hinton (So., G, 5-11); Eric Bryant (So., G, 5-9); Ethan Hillman (So., G/F, 6-5); Kyle Rolon (Fr., G, 6-0); Evan Barr (So., F, 6-3); Cameron Hall (Jr., G, 5-10); Matt Manning (Jr., F, 6-1); Pat McVerry (Jr., F, 6-0); Quentin Gibbs (Jr., G, 5-11); Spencer Cleveland (Sr., G, 5-11); Ryan Kheshgi (Sr., G, 6-0); Steven Dupra (Jr., G, 6-0); Sean Reilly (So., G/F, 6-2); Kyle Murray (So., G/F, 6-0).

Outlook: New head coach Tim Ortelli brings an experienced, competitive, and winning attitude to Somerville. Ortelli sustained great success at both Bridgewater-Raritan (1993-2008) and Rutgers Prep (2010-2014), where the programs have won eight county championships, three sectional championships and two Non-Public B titles. In addition, Ortelli spent the last two years working with coach Mary Klinger and the Rutgers Prep Lady Argonauts. During his tenure, Rutgers Prep won back-to-back county titles, a Non-Public B championship and finished as Tournament of Champions semifinalists. The team goal for Somerville this season is to be persistent and consistent each and every day with a defensive emphasis. DeShaun Smith, Kyree Hinton, Ethan Hilliman and Eric Bryant bring their winning football mentality and toughness along with returning players Chris Elwood and Kevin Sokol.

VOORHEES

Coach: Kevin Schafer, first season

Last season: 10-14

Roster: Kyle Kokoskie (Sr., PG, 5-9, 10.5 ppg.); Doug Lemenze (Sr., G/F, 6-3, 8.5 ppg.); Joey Capone (Sr., G, 6-0); Eric Schroeter (Sr., G, 5-9); Chris Sernas (Sr., G, 5-11); Tim Gallagher (Sr., G, 5-10); Jack McCabe (Sr., F/C, 6-3); Matt Czerw (Sr., C, 6-3); Christian Vernieri (Jr., G, 5-11); Wade Albore (Jr., G, 5-6); Matt Kroll (Jr., F, 6-1).

Outlook: Voorhees has a talented roster with a lot of depth and players that are hungry to win games. The depth will allow an up-tempo style of play on both ends of the court. The program has struggled in recent years, so new coach Kevin Schafer, a 2007 Voorhees alum who played at Monmouth University, is looking to change the culture and mentality and help the team play together. The expectations are high this season as the Vikings return Doug Lemenze, Joey Capone, Eric Schroeter, Tim Gallagher and Jack McCabe, and bring on some promising newcomers who will make an immediate impact in Wade Albore and Christian Vernieri. Schafer will look for its senior leadership, led by Kyle Kokoskie, to play a vital role in the team's success. Voorhees will strive to improve on a day to day basis as it wants to be above .500 and play its best basketball come tournament time.

MOUNTAIN DIVISION

BERNARDS

Coach: Tim Palek, fifth season

Last season: 18-6

Letterwinners: 8 returning, 3 lost (Dan Ball 13 ppg., 8 rpg.).

Roster: Alex Kotwick (Sr., G, 6-0, 5 apg.); Owen Loughlin (Sr., G, 6-0, 10 ppg.); Kyle Levine (Sr., G, 5-9, 10 ppg.); Cubby Schuller (Sr., C, 6-5); Ryan Tantleff (Sr., F/C, 6-2); Phil Mahlik (Sr., G, 5-8); Luke Ballard (Jr., F, 6-3); Ryan Doerr (Jr., G, 5-8); Max Cunningham (Jr., F/C, 6-3); Elliot Dietrich (Fr., F); Chris Cody (So., G, 5-10); Eddie Gambelli (So., F, 6-2).

Outlook: Last season Bernards went 18-6 and turned the corner with a group of players that saw a lot of time and took a lot of lumps as sophomores (Cubby Schuller, Kyle Levine, Owen Loughlin and Alex Kotwick all saw significant playing time as sophomores). This being their senior year, coach Tim Palek expects the team to compete for the division championship as well as high seeds in the county and state tournaments. Bernards improved its schedule with games against Ridge as well as playing in the Summit Christmas Tournament. The hope is that the early and mid-season tests will help the players compete later in the season. Kotwick is the team captain and as he goes, the team will go. He sets the pace for the offense and is also the best defender. The Mountaineers have a very well-rounded team that shares the ball to find open shooters. Loughlin, Levine, Ryan Doerr and Phil Mahlick can all shoot a high percentage from the 3-point line, which opens things up for Schuller and Ryan Tantleff down low to keep the attack balanced.

MANVILLE

Coach: Charles Brown, fifth season

Last season: 11-15

Letterwinners: 4 returning, 4 lost (Ramon Quinonez 12 ppg., 10 rpg., 500 career rebounds; Ondra Mayfield 14 ppg.; Kenny Velasquez 7 ppg., 5 apg.).

Roster: Jake Bentz (Sr., G, 6-2); Gabe Van Burren (Jr., F, 6-1, 7 ppg.); Antonio McFadden (Sr., F, 6-0); Jon Serano (Sr., G, 5-6); Safir Grovesande (Sr., F, 6-1); Nasir Peek (So., 6-1); David Fabiyan (Fr., 6-4); Jason Brennan (Fr., 6-1).

Outlook: After an 11-win season, which was the best record in 15 years, Manville begins again. The Mustangs must replace program cornerstones Ramon Quinonez, Ondra Mayfield and Kenny Velasquez, who all played for four years. The team has 17 total players, including eight freshmen. Gabe Van Burren and Antonio McFadden are solid rebounders and lockdown defenders. Jake Bentz is the perimeter threat while Jon Serano and Nasir Peek provide quickness. Grovesande will provide depth in the front court while David Fabiyan and Jason Brennan are promising freshmen. Coach Charles Brown will have to manage and develop an inexperienced group quickly in order to match last year's success.

NORTH PLAINFIELD

Coach: Reginald Sainte-Rose, fifth season

Last season: 18-7, Somerset County Tournament quarterfinalist.

Roster: Tony Godwin (Sr., G/F, 6-4); Sean Taylor (Jr., G, 6-1).

Outlook: North Plainfield will look to be competitive as it rebuilds after losing nine seniors to graduation.

PINGRY

Coach: Jason Murdock, 11th season

Last season: 11-12

Letterwinners: 3 returning, 5 lost (Lloyd James 10 ppg., 8 rpg.; Zach Keller 10 ppg., 8 rpg.; Henry Kraham, Jack Wolfson).

Roster: Michael Weber (Sr., F, 20 ppg., 5 rpg.); Phito Jean Louis (Sr., G, 5 ppg., 2 apg.); Kyle Aanstoots (Jr., G, 6 ppg., 3 apg.); Ray Fluet (3 ppg., 2 apg.); Nate Hefner (3 ppg., 3 rpg.); Channing Russell (Sr., G, 5-10); Patrick Stefurak (So., F, 6-2); Brandon Lane (So., G, 5-9); Shane Shannon (So., G, 5-10); Isiah Simon (So., G, 5-10).

Outlook: With a handful of players with varsity experience returning, Pingry will look to fill the holes lost to graduation, build on last season and compete every game.

SOUTH HUNTERDON

Coach: Jason Miller, 11th season

Last season: 4-20

Letterwinners: 9 returning, 0 lost

Roster: Eric Myers (Sr., F, 6-3); Quenton Beyah (So., G, 5-10); Joe Armstrong (Sr., F, 6-0); Jack Myers (Sr., G, 6-0); Cam Paventi (Sr., F, 6-3); Brian Grant (Jr., F, 6-4); Cooper McCaffrey (So., G, 5-9); Jaden Jesse (Jr., G, 5-9); Reggie Smith (Jr., G, 5-10).

Outlook: South Hunterdon will be an experienced team this season with the return of its entire team. The Eagles lost 12 games last season by five points or less, and with the nine players returning will look to improve game by game.

Bridgewater-Raritan's Aaron Gao takes a shot against Montgomery during their Somerset County Tournament quarterfinal on Feb. 21, 2017.

GREATER MIDDLESEX CONFERENCE

RED DIVISION

PISCATAWAY

Coach: Darius Griffin Sr., second season

Last season: 16-10

Letterwinners: 6 returning, 9 lost

Roster: Mattias Arrindell (Sr., G, 6-1); Jordan Davidson (Sr., G, 6-0); Nasir Gray (Sr., F, 6-2); Robert Terry (Sr., G, 6-0); Tyree Barba-Bey (Jr., G, 6-1); Keshawn Grant (Sr., C, 6-2); David Benetiz (Sr.); Antonio Chandler (Jr.); Mark Davis (Jr.); Darly DeCohen (Jr.); Andre Emden (Jr.); Samuel Ezeonu (Jr.); Angelo Manalaysay (Sr.); Savoi Smith (Jr.); Derrick Grant (So.).

Outlook: The starting five will be Jordan Davidson, Mattias Arrindell, Tyree Barba-Bey, Antonio Chandler and Keshawn Grant. The goal for Piscataway this season is to be the best team it can be every game, and will look to Davidson and Arrindell for leadership.

BLUE DIVISION

MIDDLESEX

Coach: Jared Goldstein, fourth season

Last season: 12-13

Letterwinners: 8 returning, 4 lost (Chris Hendricks, Chris Spencer, Nick Montajes, Pat Rudawski).

Roster: Jake Robel (Sr., F, 6-6); Tyler Ha (Sr., G, 5-10); Ryan Reynolds (Sr., G/F, 6-0); Kareem Aref (Sr., F, 6-4); Anthony Mason (Sr., F, 6-0); Brad Kaplan (Sr., G, 5-8); John Dickey (Jr., G, 6-1); Jake Bogus (Sr., F, 5-10); Isaac Lopez (Sr., G, 5-7); Kevin Reynolds (So., G, 5-10); Tyrus Chippendale (So., G, 5-8).

Outlook: This group of Blue Jays have been playing together since their recreation basketball days. For a small school to have such a tight-knit group will be crucial for their success. They will rely heavily on each other to help them through adverse times during the season. Night in and night out one thing can always be counted on, this team will defend. This year the Blue Jays will look to improve on their previous success. Middlesex will rely heavily on this year’s seniors as they are familiar with the team’s system and will adapt it to fit their abilities. Jake Robel returns as a three-year starter who led the team in rebounds, blocks and points. He will anchor the team’s defense by protecting the rim. Tyler Ha also returns as a three-year starter who led the team in assists from a year ago and will be serving as the team’s floor general. Ryan Reynolds has the potential to be a lockdown defender and John Dickey is always in attack mode. Some newcomers who are expecting to make an immediate impact are Kareem Aref and Anthony Mason. They will add depth to the frontline. Brad Kaplan, Kevin Reynolds, and Tyrus Chippendale will also have a profound impact on the defensive end as they provide depth to the backcourt.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD

Coach: John Greco, first season

Last season: 10-15

Letterwinners: 4 returning, 5 lost (Will McLaughlin 12.3 ppg.; Dylan O'Connor 8.8 ppg., 4 rpg.; De'shai Smith 8.8 ppg., 9.8 rpg.; Jean Sapini; Jared Marks).

Roster: Jalil Palms (G, 5-11, 6.4 ppg., 2.9 apg.); Dondre Tate (G, 5-10, 5.8 ppg.); Gio Dudley (G, 6-0, 4.5 ppg.); Ian McCoid (G, 6-1, 5.8 ppg.); Joe Siegenthaler (Jr., F, 6-3); Julian Lee (Sr., G, 5-10); Ja'shon Bass (Jr., G, 5-10); Sam Wolak (Jr., G, 5-10); Dheer Patel (Sr., F, 6-2); Steven Dang (Sr., F, 6-0).

Outlook: Coach John Greco takes over after being an assistant at South Plainfiefld for nine years. Greco has seen the Tigers struggle in the past, but as an assistant under former coach Matt Connell the last few years, he believes the team has improved and will look to keep the program going in the right direction. This season, South Plainfield is an inexperienced squad that is looking to grow with each other.  The team lost a large percentage of its scoring, losing the top three scorers and leading rebounder, but hope to have new guys step up and replace them. The players have played a lot together over the summer and have developed a chemistry together, so hopefully that can carry over to the new basketball season. The expectations are to outwork opponents every game and focus on improving in the Blue Division after finishing third last year.

GOLD DIVISION

DUNELLEN

Coach: Howie Horowitz, third season

Last season: 8-17

Letterwinners: 8 returning, 3  lost (Oscar Caballero 13.4 ppg.).

Roster: Tyje Kelton (So., F/G, 6-3, 14.4 ppg., 8.2 rpg., 2.6 apg., 1.9 spg.); RJ Mitchell (Sr., G, 6-0, 2.2 ppg., 3.3 apg.); Nazir Martin (Sr., G, 6-1, 3.5 ppg., 1.6 apg., 2 rpg.); Isaiah Roberts (Sr., G, 6-1); Angel Suarez (C, 6-3, 3.8 ppg., 3.7 rpg.); Baraka Yabidi (C, 6-2); Noah Wenzel (PG, 5-10); Kilwa Casey (G, 5-10); Alex Gibney (G, 5-10); Drew Johnson (Fr., F, 6-2); Nick Herbig (Jr., F, 6-1).

Outlook: The Destroyers expect to be much more competitive this season thanks to internal growth. Nazir Martin, Tyje Kelton, Angel Suarez and RJ Mitchell all played significant roles last season while Noah Wenzel and Baraka Yabidi both played more as the season went on. Kelton, an All-Gold Division player as a freshman, is expected to improve on a very impressive freshman season where he averaged 14 points and eight rebounds a game. Mitchell and Martin provide great defensive effort at the point of attack and Suarez and Yabidi are expected to be very effective on the glass. While only a freshman, Drew Johnson is expected to play a big role this season as a secondary scorer to Kelton. Kilwa Casey, Alex Gibney and Isaiah Roberts provide great depth as well. The goal is to compete for a Gold Division crown and anything less would be a disappointment.

TIMOTHY CHRISTIAN

Coach: Francis Decker, second season

Last season: 17-10

Letterwinners: 2 returning, 6 lost (William Clemons 10.4 ppg.; AJ Mhya 7.5 ppg.; Josh Alcoriza 4 ppg.).

Roster: Robert Saydee (Sr., G, 6-0, 18.5 ppg.); Pierce Kokosinski (F, 6-3, 14.4 ppg.); Nate Aviles (So., G, 5-10); Kyle Clemons (Jr., G, 5-11); Lonnie Carden (Jr., G, 5-11); Jarrett Johnson (Sr., F, 6-5); Josh Brown (Sr., F, 6-1).
