Courier News Softball Player of the Week ballot: Week 2

The season's third full week is about to get underway and it's time to look back at the top performances from Week 2.

Here are the Courier News Player of the Week nominations:

EMMA CORBETT

Gill St. Bernard's

Junior, pitcher

The Knights ace fired a perfect game at North Plainfield on Wednesday, striking out 14. The lefty finished the week 3-1, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and striking out 45 in 23 innings, with her lone loss coming in a 1-0 in 10-innings to Bound Brook. At the plate, Corbett hit .438 with five doubles, eight run and three RBIs, and is hitting .412 for the season with seven two-baggers, a homer, 15 runs, seven RBIs, nine walks and three stolen bases. In the circle, she's posted a 2.60 ERA and has struck out 100 in 51 innings.

CARLY SEVERINI

North Hunterdon

Senior, shortstop

A first-team All-Area selection last season, the four-year starter and Boston College signee is enjoying another stellar campaign for the reigning state Group IV champion Lions. Severini hit .666 on 8-for-12, doubling four times, scoring five runs and knocking in two more last week. For the season, the superstar is batting .567 with four doubles, two homers, eight runs and nine RBIs, and has drawn six walks.

MELISSA WILL

Voorhees

Sophomore, third base

The lone varsity newcomer among this week's nominees, the rookie third baseman was right in the middle of things as the Vikings posted a 3-1 week, including a walkoff win in the third-place game Saturday at the Red Devil Invitational. Will hit .636 last week, scoring three times and driving in five runs. For the season, the sophomore is batting .464 with a homer and 10 RBIs.

MEGAN ZINN

Bridgewater-Raritan

Junior, pitcher/outfield

The Panthers ace fired a five-hit shutout in B-R's biggest win of the year, 3-0 Friday over Watchung Hills, in a game she also homered. Zinn finished the week with two wins, including a victory in 3 2/3 innings of relief against Phillipsburg, and hit .571 with two doubles and the home run. For the season, Zinn is hitting .545 with five doubles, a homer, six runs scored, five RBIs and three stolen bases for the 7-2 Panthers.
