Week 7: High school football scoreboard, stories, recaps

CENTRAL JERSEY – Here is your one-stop shop for all our Week 7 high school football coverage from Friday night. It was highlighted by Hillsborough's come-from-behind, last second victory over Elizabeth to secure the Mid-State 38 Delaware Division title. Elsewhere, New Brunswick scored an overtime victory on the road at Freehold Township.

Hillsborough 31, Elizabeth 28

After squandering a two-touchdown lead to fall behind by a touchdown with four minutes to play, Hillsborough rallied for 10 points in the final 50 seconds to defeat Elizabeth, 31-28, and capture the coveted Delaware Division championship. Zach Eilbacher delivered the game-winning blow with a 20-yard field goal with 7.3 seconds remaining as unbeaten Hillsborough recorded its seventh victory.

Woodbridge 42, South Plainfield 7

Quarterback Tracy Fudge and running back Zahneer Shuler powered the quick-strike offense and linebacker Nathan Lainer and defensive back Quaasim Glover led an opportunistic defense as Woodbridge took the lead early and never let up in a 42-7 victory over South Plainfield last night in a Greater Middlesex Conference-White Division match up.

New Brunswick 27, Freehold Township 21

A 25-yard touchdown throw from Trevon Blakey to Maurice Ffrench delivered New Brunswick's 27-21 victory in overtime, a wild finish that left both teams at 3-4 one game before the cutoff for the NJSIAA playoffs.

Dunellen 65, Asbury Park 18

Nassan Anderson rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns as Dunellen won its sixth straight, having outscored opponents 247-93 in that span.

Colonia 41, St. Joseph 10

Colonia, which had 115 passing yards and 108 yards on the ground in the first half, scored on each of its opening four possessions. Only the halftime clock prevented the Patriots from possibly registering an additional score in a 28-3 advantage.

Westfield 31, North Hunterdon 24

Westfield running back Jack Curry carried the ball 27 times against North Hunterdon and made every single one of them count. On his last carry, Curry scored the game-winning touchdown, a 14 yard run, to lead Westfield over North Hunterdon 31-24 Friday night.

North Brunswick 13, J.P. Stevens 7

The difference in the game came on a special teams play for North Brunswick. Sophomore Matt Rodriguez blew past the line and blocked a punt coming from inside JP Stevens' 5-yard line. Sophomore Keith Sivetz recovered the ball in the endzone to give North Brunswick a 13-0 advantage.

J.F. Kennedy 21, Perth Amboy 0

"All the credit in the world to Perth Amboy (0-6)," said Andrew Maurizio, the coach of J.F Kennedy. "They came out with a lot of enthusiasm. They did a good job preparing for us, you can tell they watched a lot of film on us. They took away a lot of things we wanted to do and at the we had to muscle it out at the end of the day."

Bernards 41, North Plainfield 12

The Mountaineers were in complete control from the opening kick Friday night in a rousing 41-12 victory over North Plainfield at Olcott Field. The Mountaineers (6-0) nearly built a mercy-rule advantage in the first quarter. North Plainfield, 2-4, buoyed by its upset of Delaware Valley last Friday night, simply was never in it.

Bridgewater-Raritan 22, Franklin 14

Bridgewater-Raritan though would make a statement to start the second half as senior running back Matt Kaiteris scored on a 62-yard touchdown run to put the Panthers up 7-6. "We got 24 minutes to go out and play for the win," Bray told his team at halftime.

Montgomery 46, Plainfield 7

Montgomery High School trailed Plainfield 7-3 at the end of the first quarter of Friday night's competition. Their offense, led by West Virginia bound quarterback Chris Chugunov, could not find a way to get the ball into the end zone. They needed to find a way to end the momentum that Plainfield gained.

South Brunswick 39, Edison 14

The Vikings led 16-8 in the second quarter before scoring 17 unanswered points in a span of 6-1/2 minutes bridging the halves. Phil Campbell scored on runs of 74 and 9 yards during the outburst and finished with three touchdowns and 163 yards on 11 carries.

Summit 44, Voorhees 20

Jake Froschauer threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns, including a pair to Andrew Helmer (4-109), as Summit (6-1) opened a 30-7 lead at halftime. Charlie Rodenberger finished 4-for-10 passing for 122 yards and two touchdowns for Voorhees (5-2). Jon Blunk had three catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns, while Connor Brown rushed for 88 yards on 14 carries for the Vikings.

Bound Brook 27, New Providence 26

In a back-and-forth affair at LaMonte Field, Darius Brown's interception with five seconds left sealed a 27-26 win for the Bound Brook High School football team over New Providence on Friday night.

Cranford 35, Delaware Valley 18

Luke Christiano rushed eight times for 176 yards and three touchdowns, and passed for one touchdown, leading Cranford back from a 10-0 halftime deficit. Christiano scored twice in the third quarter, with runs of 66 yards and 25 yards, and once in the fourth quarter on a nine yard run. Corey Shedlock led Delaware Valley in the loss, rushing 25 times for 118 yards and one touchdown.

Phillipsburg 43, Hunterdon Central 21

James Mania had one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown to lead Hunterdon Central, who couldn't overcome a 30-0 halftime deficit. The Red Devils outscored Phillipsburg 21-13 in the second half, capped by a Leo Aquino 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Warren Hills 47, Somerville 7

Nick Couzzi completed five passes for 100 yards and one touchdown to lead Somerville, who trailed 33-7 at the half. Chris Ciempola caught a 25-yard pass from Couzzi for the lone Pioneers touchdown. Austin VanNess caught three passes for 55 yards in the loss.

Belvidere 36, Pingry 0

Belvidere raced out to a 14-0 lead, riding on two David Harris rushing touchdowns to the victory. Pingry drops to 1-6 on the season with the loss.

Carteret 27, Bishop Ahr 3

On senior night in Carteret, a pair of sophomores scored fourth quarter touchdowns to turn a tight defensive game into a comfortable 27-3 win for the host Carteret High School football team over Bishop Ahr on Friday night at 'The Pit.'

Monroe 34, Howell 7

Down 7-6 at the half, Monroe scored 21 points in the third quarter while allowing zero second half points to Howell to get the victory. Akeer Franklin rushed for two touchdowns, and Stephen Karoly had one passing touchdown to lead the Falcons. Defense and special teams were key, with an interception return and punt return both netting scores in the win.

Linden 36, Ridge 14

Kyle Phipps rushed 14 times for 233 yards and three touchdowns, and Juwan Dolbrice rushed 15 times for 102 yards to lead Linden (7-0). Phipps and Dolbrice combined for three first half touchdowns, leading to a 20-7 halftime lead. The Tigers had 385 total yards, with 371 yards coming on the ground. Ridge drops to 2-5 on the season with the loss.

Point Pleasant Beach 34, Highland Park 15

Mike Frauenheim had an effective day on the offensive and defensive side of the ball for Point Beach, as he finished with 19 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns, and also finished with two interceptions. Quarterback Jack Fioritti went 3-6 for 65 yards and a touchdown, and Zach Schaller also added a five yard touchdown run for the Garnet Gulls. Miles Shea closed out the scoring for Point Beach with a 46 yard touchdown run.

Shore 35, South River 0

Nicholas Lepore complete eight passes for 72 yards, including five to Jared Smith for 58 yards, to lead South River (2-5). Khaliyl Everett and Sean Darrar combined for 65 rushing yards for the Rams, who trailed 14-0 at halftime.

Union 28, Watchung Hills 23

Watchung Hills dropped its second straight to fall to 2-5.
