HNT girls soccer roundup for Monday, Sept. 8

East Brunswick 2, Union 1 (OT): Margaret Lee scored in the second minute of the second overtime Monday to lift the East Brunswick High School girls soccer team to a home 2-1 victory over Union.

Carla LaRocca, who finished with two assists, started the winning run when she received the ball on the left flank and drove hard to the center of the field. After drawing two defenders, she sent a delicate pass behind the Union defense where Lee overlapped into the space and crushed a left-footed blast from 12 yards out into the near side of the net.

Freshman Victoria Constantin scored her first varsity goal in the 48th minute to tie it for the Bears, who got six saves from Alex Kalafor.

New Brunswick 2, South Amboy 1 (OT): Yaqueline Varela netted her second goal of the game nine minutes into overtime to lift New Brunswick to victory in its opener. South Amboy (0-1) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Stephanie Gay, before Varela tied it late in the second half.

Metuchen 3, Mother Seton 0: Alexa Craft-Zaletel posted a goal and an assist, and Kathatine Chura and Ariana SantoPietro each added goals to fuel Metuchen. Emily Buchanan made nine saves for the Bulldogs (2-0), while Shannan McCarthy stopped 12 attempts for Mother Seton (0-2).

Wardalw-Hartridge 4, J.F. Kennedy 0: Alex Garces hit twice, and Neema Liverpool and Carlin Schildge each added goals and Wardlaw-Hartridge moved to 2-0. Lacey Gress and Sara Begalman each turned aside on shot to share the shutout, while Clare Lewis made 11 saves for the Mustangs in their opener.

Middlesex 1, Spotswood 1. Katie Nicholson snapped a scoreless tie in the 50th minute to give Middlesex a lead, before Morgan Zmijewski tied it for Spotswood with 4:00 left in regulation. Nicole Fallon made three saves for the Blue Jays, while Lisa Millburn recorded seven stop for the Chargers, who played a player down for much of the second half and overtime because of a second yellow card.

Highland Park 4, Carteret 1: Elizabeth Girvan recorded two goals and an assist, while Sofia Geillerman tallied a goal and an assist to send Highland Park, which erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with four unanswered in the second half. Elisabeth Landis also scored for the Owls, while Maria Vivar hit for the Ramblers.

Timothy Christian 4, South River 1: Jenna Collier scored three goals and Sydney ST. Jean added a goal and an assist to lead Timothy Christian (2-0). Sarah Solorzano notched two assists for the Tigers, while Gabriela Sampaio netted a goal for South River (0-2).
