Middlesex drug arrests; Woodbridge burglaries

FRANKLIN (Somerset County) –

ASSAULT, about 12 a.m. July 18. A cab driver reported that he picked up three young males and brought them to Hempstead Drive. When he stopped the cab, he was struck with an unknown object by one of the individuals and suffered a cut on his head. The driver was transported to St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment. Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department are investigating.

MIDDLESEX BOROUGH –

HINDERING, 10:17 a.m. June 28. After committing a traffic violation, Arthur D. Frink, 60, of Middlesex, provided false information regarding his identity to police. He was charged with hindering apprehension.

DRUG ARRESTS, 7:33 p.m. July 10. Officers investigating a motor vehicle violation discovered three men in possession of more than 30-grams of marijuana as well as materials and equipment for weighing and packaging marijuana for sale. Kinajee K. Dawson, 19, of North Brunswick, Kaylinn J. Johnson, 23, of Piscataway, and Adonijah T. Lettsome, 21, of Plainfield, were arrested and charged with possession of a CDS, possession of a CDS with the intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. The men were remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick. Bail for Johnson was set at $5,000 and bail for Dawson and Lettsome was set at $2,500 each.

DWI, 5:26 a.m. July 4. Kevin A. Veliz, 22, of Plainfield, was arrested and charged with DWI following a motor vehicle stop on Bound Brook Road at Grove Street.

THEFT, 12:33 a.m. July 6. A Maple Street resident reported the theft of a Coach brand, wristlet-style purse from her residence. An investigation revealed no signs of forced entry and no indication that unauthorized persons were in the home. The purse, valued at $50, reportedly contained various personal documents and a Visa debit card.

THEFT ARREST, 11 p.m. July 9. Kurt E. Mosier, 44, of South Plainfield, was arrested and charged with theft, defiant trespass and possession of burglar tools. The investigation revealed that Mosier removed almost 4,000 pounds of scrap aluminum from Unique Aluminum Extrusions, 333 Cedar Ave., between June 25 and July 8. The value of the stolen aluminum was reported as $3,821.80. Mosier was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick on $10,000 bail.

WOODBRIDGE

BURGLARY, between 1 p.m. and 9:18 p.m. July 20. Two homes were burglarized on Forest View Drive in Avenel. In the first incident, entry is believed to have been gained to the home by prying open a door. The bedrooms were ransacked and an iPod classic, valued at about $200, and bank checks were taken. The closet bedroom doors were left open in the master bedroom and a suitcase was left open on top of the bed. A wooden mirrored chest was ransacked and left open. A jewelry box in the kids bedroom was opened and its contents removed and scattered all over the floor. It is unclear whether any items were taken from the jewelry box. In the second incident, which occurred between 1:20 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., a resident returned home to find the front door forced open, his bedroom rummaged through and various items scattered throughout the room. Taken were $880, a Mac Book Pro, an iPad, a Samsung S3 cell phone, a Nikon camera, a blue tooth keyboard and two watches.

PLAINSBORO

CONTEMPT OF COURT, 6:07 p.m. July 17. Felipe R. Ortega, 41, of Bronx, New York, responded to police headquarters to get his vehicle out of the impound yard. Checks on Ortega revealed a child support warrant out of Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department for $42,410.57. Ortega was transported to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick in lieu of the child support payment. He was then to be transported to Cumberland County Jail.

DWI, 2:11 a.m. July 18. Police stopped a 2014 Kia Forte on Route 1 north for failing to maintain a lane of travel. During the stop, the driver, Ricsy Ramos, 21, of New Brunswick,, was found to be driving while intoxicated. Ramos was arrested and charged with DWI. Ramos also received motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Ramos was later released to a friend pending a later court date.
