Montgomery 8, Phillipsburg 7: Senior Demetria Kitrinos delivered a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday as the Montgomery High School softball team rallied for a 8-7 victory over Phillipsburg.

Kira Ferraiolo and Berna McCormick started the inning with back-to-back singles, advancing to second and third on a sacrifice by Emily Case. After a groundout froze the runners, Kitrinos lined one between shortstop and third base to walk the Cougars off.

Kitrinos had doubled in a run earlier in the game, before the Stateliners (0-2) scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. Kaitlin Kochinski contributed a triple and two RBIs for Montgomery, which improved to 2-0.

Delaware Valley 7, Ridge 5: Riley Ferrara's two-run single tied the game and an RBI double by Sarah Zengal proved to be the game winner, as Delaware Valley posted seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally past Ridge. Ashley Britt, Shelby Koches and Antonea Berezny all delivered RBI singles for the Terriers (1-0). Amanda O'Brien picked up the win, shaking off five runs allowed over the first two innings to a surrender just two more hits over the final five frames. She set down the final 11 straight to end the game. Kristina Mueller collected two hits and two runs for Ridge (0-2), while Kristin Miscia and Brittany Rickard each picked up a pair of RBIs for the Red Devils.

Governor Livingston 7, Westfield 4: Katie Debbie singled, double, tripled, scored twice and drove in two runs to help spark Governor Livingston (2-0). Hayley Berliner also posted three hits for the Highlanders. Bobbi Snyder went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, run and two RBIs for Westfield (1-1).

Pingry 5, Gill St. Bernard's 4: Katie Marino picked up two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as Pingry won a back-and-forth affair. Marino struck out 14 for the Big Blue (2-0), who scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 4-2 deficit and held on. Pitcher Emma Corbett led Gill St. Bernard's (1-1) with a double, homer and three RBIs, and she struck out 11.

Bridgewater-Raritan 3, Warren Hills 1: Samantha Ward and Deanna Centi each posted a double and an RBI, and Megan Zinn allowed no earned runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out six to lead Bridgewater-Raritan (2-0). Sarah Rebetje also drove in a run for the Panthers, while Zinn picked up two hits and a run scored.

Perth Amboy Tech 9, East Brunswick Tech 6: Michelle Infante went 2-for-2 with a homer, two runs and three RBIs to help power Perth Amboy Tech. Christine Zapata added a double and two RBIs, as the Patriots won their opener. Allison DeSimone went 2-for-2 with two runs for East Brunswick Tech (0-1).

Metuchen 9, Middlesex 1: Molly O'Connor allowed just one hit and struck out 13 to claim her first varsity victory for Metuchen. Brooke Bandola went 3-for-4 with a double and triple, while Tina Szochanski added a double and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (1-0). Ashley Dotey singled and scored a run for Middlesex (0-1).

Manville 6, Warren Tech 5: Megan Mack finished with three RBIs and Victoria Schuyler drove in a run and scored two more to boost Manville (1-1). Mack and Sam Ortiz drove in runs in the fifth inning to tie it for the Mustangs, before Schuyler and Brianna Roche drove in runs in the sixth to put Manville up for good.

Hunterdon Central 9, Peddie 5 (10 innings): Senior Ally Hernandez finished 4-for-6 and scored three runs, and Jess McGuire notched two fdoubles and two RBIs, as Hunterdon Central scored five times in the top of the 10th inning to win its first. Gina Cillo doubled, tripled and drove in a run, and Stephanie Golterman added three hits and an RBI for the Red Devils (1-1).

Watchung Hills 4, Randolph 1: Annie Suitovsky went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Gianna Aprile added a 3-for-3 day with two triples and a run for Watchung Hills (1-1). Alyssa Murray allowed a run on seven hits, walked two and struck out five for the Warriors.

East Brunswick 14, Colonia 7: Lauren Assennata had a day, going 4-for-5 with a double, homer, two runs and seven RBIs as East Brunswick cruised to 2-0. Sam Smalley and Brenna Razzano each chipped in three hits for the Bears. Kate Brannigan posted three hits, including a double and a homer, scored three times and notched three RBIs, while Gaby Perez picked up two hits and two RBIs for Colonia (1-1).

Sayreville 14, Woodbridge 2: Emily Cabrera went 4-for-5 with two doubles, and Mary Kate Kersting and Kelly Duffy each added three hits to send Sayreville (1-0). Carly Kjersgaard doubled and tripled for Woodbridge (0-1).

Somerset Tech 19, Newark Tech 0 (4 innings): Kaitlyn Ferri singled, double, scored twice and drove in four runs as Somerset Tech rolled in its three-inning opener. Khushman Parekh added two hits, including a double, three runs and three RBIs, while Abby Manuel, who didn't allow a hit and struck out 11, chipped in two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Runnin' Jags.

South Plainfield 19, Dunellen 0 (3 innings): Holly DeLair doubled, homered and drove in seven runs, as South Plainfield put up 12 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Camrym Schaeffer added two doubles and three RBIs for the Tigers (2-0). Mena Feliciano notched the lone hit for Dunellen (1-1).

Somerville 15, North Brunswick 1 (5 innings): Taylor Geiger racked up a 4-for-4 afternoon, ripping a double, two triples, two RBIs and scoring twice to lead Somerville at Diamond Nation. Natalie Pinho added a single, double and three RBIs for the Pioneers (1-1), while going four innings in the circle to pick up the win. Angela Colandrea doubled, tripled and drove in a run for North Brunswick (0-2).

Cardinal McCarrick 11, New Brunswick 0 (5 innings): Kelsey Edwards singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in four, while Jackie Riley spun five one-hit innings, striking out 12, to lift Cardinal McCarrick (1-0). Riley added two hits, including a triple, two runs and two RBIs for the Eagles. Nichole Rivas singled for the Zebras (0-1).

Rahway 10, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 6: Lindsay Antczak posted three hits, including a double and triples, scored twice and drove in three runs as Rahway improved to 2-0. Karolina Rosso and Shanel Stradford each added two hits and two RBIs for the Indians. Kyra Lockhart finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs and Danielle Scheu posted two hits and a run for the Raiders (1-1).

Union Catholic 6, Summit 3: Emily Garno went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, while Isabel Santiago posted two hits and two RBIs for Union Catholic. Kristen Burr chipped in three hits, including a a double and triple, and scored a run for the Vikings (2-0).

Wardlaw-Hartridge 10, Calvary Christian 7: Lacey Gress went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Rachel Voeltzel homered and drove in three runs to ignite Wardlaw-Hartridge (2-0). Brittney Wilson scored three runs for the Rams.

Perth Amboy 9, South River 4: Quiana Starks went 3-for-4 and picked up the win in the circle to lift Perth Amboy. Mia Molina delivered a three-run triple and Derilis Valerio finished with two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs for the Panthers.

Plainfield 21, Hillside 5 (5 innings): Alexis Coverly finished 4-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs and senior pitcher Ariel Brown struck out seven to earn the victory as Plainfield improved to 1-1. Janayda Spencer went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Cardinals, who swiped 14 bases in the victory.

Caldwell 8, Mount St. Mary 1: Andrea Sanders picked up two hits and an RBI, and Jaqueline McNulla tripled and scored a run, but Mount St. Mary fell to 1-1. Colleen Verdic chipped in two hits for the Mount Lions.

Cranford 20, New Providence 1 (5 innings): Jodi Bull notched an RBI and Erica Boyd scored a run for New Providence (0-1).
