CN All-Area Boys Basketball Teams
FIRST TEAM
F Max Mahoney, Ridge, Sr.
The Boston University-bound senior and Courier News Boys Basketball Player of the Year averaged a double-double this season with 23 points and 13.3 rebounds a game. Mahoney helped Ridge to a 17-8 record, the Somerset County Tournament semifinals and the North 2 Group IV quarterfinals. Mahoney scored over 20 points 18 times, scored 30 or more points three times and dropped a season-high 40 points against Rutgers Prep.

G Adam Mitola, Gill St. Bernard’s, Sr.
Mitola led Gill St. Bernard’s in scoring this season, averaging close to 13 points and seven rebounds a game as the Knights finished with a 25-5 record, won their second-straight Somerset County Tournament title and the Delaware Division title, going undefeated in the conference at 10-0, and advanced to the South Non-Public B final.
G Randy Walko, Somerville, Sr.
Walko averaged almost 23 points a game and finished with a total of 621 points this season for the Pioneers. He scored 40 points against Hillsborough and dropped 41 points in a win over Bernards as Somerville won its 14th Skyland Conference Valley Division title, advanced to the Somerset County Tournament final and the North 2 Group III sectional final.

G Tucker Richardson, Hunterdon Central, Jr.
The junior led Hunterdon Central this season, averaging close to 17 points a game and finished with a total of 459 points. Richardson helped lead the Red Devils to one of their most successful seasons in school history as they finished with a school-record 24 wins, won the Skyland Conference Raritan Division title for the first time in 22 years, advanced to the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament final and advanced to the Central Group IV sectional final.
G Zahir Newell, Union Catholic, Sr.
The senior averaged 13 points per game this season as Union Catholic finished at 17-8 and second in the Union County Conference Mountain Division. Newell scored 16 points in a Union County Tournament semifinal loss to the Patrick School and scored a team-high 18 points as the Vikings fell to St. Augustine in the South Non-Public A quarterfinals.
