Hunterdon County Polytech's Aesthetics program has helped a 30-year-old business reach new markets through the addition of skincare services.

This expansion was as a result of one of the business owners becoming a licensed aesthetician through Polytech's Adult & Continuing Education program. In a news release, the career and technical school said the success of David Clark of The Village Salon in Pennington is a testament to the impact in the community and beyond its borders.

Clark left the IT world in New York City several years ago to join his wife, Karen, in her salon. To continue the expansion of services offered, he took Polytech's Aesthetics program to become a licensed aesthetician.

Today, the salon has grown from four chairs to 10 and, with David's aesthetics license, their skincare offerings have doubled.

"Attending Polytech has given me the perspective I previously lacked," said Clark, the salon's manager, who specializes in microdermabrasion and chemical peels. "I appreciate my employees more. I am also more prepared to manage the salon and our skincare division because I have first-hand knowledge of what is required. The aesthetics program was an educationally enriching experience that helped me in countless ways and continues to do so to this day."

Gina-Marie Winkler teaches Polytech's Aesthetics program with more than 20 years of experience as a licensed cosmetology and skincare specialist. An information session will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on May 6 with the opportunity to meet the instructor, visit the clinic and learn more about the program. Register for 2015-16 semester at 908-788-1119, ext. 2009. For info, call Winkler at 908-788-1119, ext. 2013, email gwinkler@hcpolytech.org, or visit www.hcpolytechadulted.org.
