SOMERVILLE – A Morris County man has been charged with burglarizing a Main Street pharmacy and trying to escape from police.

Mario Maricada, 25, of Randolph, was arrested at about 9:52 p.m. July 2 after police responded to a burglar alarm at Wald Drugs, 40 W. Main St.

When police arrived at the store, they found that a front window had been smashed, according to an affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Once inside the store, police found Maricada trying to hide in a cabinet in a second-floor office, the affidavit said.

After being confronted by police, Maricada tried to jump out of a second-floor window but was stopped by police, the affidavit said.

Maricada was then taken to police headquarters, but as he was being escorted from the patrol car, he began to run away.

Police were able to tackle him on Veterans Memorial Drive just west of Bridge Street, the affidavit said.

Maricada was charged with burglary, theft, resisting arrest by escape and criminal mischief. Maricada remains in the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bail.
