Favorite: Monroe's Sal Profaci, who committed to the University of Michigan during the offseason, is wrestling on a completely different level than the rest of the field and may prove to be the best 132-pounder in the state. Owner of a 22-0 record, Profaci has pinned four conference foes and the only league member to nearly go the distance with him is South Brunswick's Nick Daza, who lost by technical fall with one second remaining. Profaci pinned South Plainfield's Kyle Bythell in the first period.

Top contenders: Kyle Bythell (South Plainfield, 17-3), Bob Dinger (Middlesex, 17-3), Nick Daza (South Brunswick, 12-8).

Others to watch: Dylan Alves (Sayreville, 12-7), Ryan Naiduk (Edison, 8-10), Tyler Earl (Bishop Ahr, 9-13), Keion Cherry (Colonia, 15-4), Jose Ruiz (Highland Park), Arcelio Aponte (Piscataway, 7-9), Jason Minikel (East Brunswick, 10-4), Nezzar Dimes (Old Bridge, 9-8).

Rest of the field: Ishmael Pitts (Carteret, 6-16), Jose Ruiz (Highland Park, 19-5), Sooraz Bylipudi (J.P. Stevens, 3-12), P.J. Pascalli (J.F. Kennedy, 5-4), Tom Annarumma (Metuchen, 4-14), Cristian Pinto (New Brunswick, 9-9), John Ramos (South River, 11-9), Ryan Donovan (Spotswood, 0-7), Hunter Kiraly (Woodbridge, 5-7).

Top GMCT returner to weight class: Dinger placed third last season.

Notes: With Profaci the overwhelming favorite, seeding will be paramount. Those with criteria may have an advantage over Bythell, who otherwise is more than capable of reaching the final. Bythell scored a 6-2 decision over Montville's Michael Glaser, who lost 8-7 in an UTB to Dinger. Daza placed eighth in the GMCT at 106 pounds last season. Earl, last winter's Cinderella story, was seventh in the GMCT at 152 pounds a year ago. Tremendous parity exists among others to watch.
