GMC Tournament preliminary round

Metuchen 5, Middlesex 1: Molly O’Connor struck out 12, walked one, and allowed an earned run on four hits to carry 15th-seeded Metuchen. Liane Cifrodelli went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and two runs for the Bulldogs as she is one hit shy of 150 hits for her career. Sami Hoffman also had two hits for Metuchen (11-10), which will face second-seeded Monroe in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Michelle Wisniewski pushed a run across in the fifth for 18th-seeded Middlesex (8-12) with an RBI single.

Piscataway 4, Perth Amboy 1: Michelle Gebhardt went 3-for-3 with a triple and RBI and Julia Seader went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead 10th-seeded Piscataway (7-8). Sarah Ogilvie allowed an earned run on four hits, striking out 12 and walking two for the Chiefs, who will face seventh-seeded Spotswood in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Quiana Starks went 2-for-3 with a double for 26th-seeded Perth Amboy (2-17).

Edison 10, J.F. Kennedy 5: Bianca Newsom went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Nikki Gresh was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead 17th-seeded Edison (4-15). Laura Flynn went 3-for-4 for the Eagles while getting the win, as she gave up three earned runs on seven hits. Edison will face top-seeded South Plainfield in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Ashley conroy and Becky Genoa each had two hits for 16th-seeded J.F. Kennedy (7-13).

Woodbridge 7, Carteret 2: Winning pitcher Carly Kjersgaard gave up two unearned runs on six hits for 14th-seeded Woodbridge (11-12). Justine Stefura went 3-for-4 and Taylor Greco was 2-for-3 with three RBI as the Barrons will face third-seeded J.P. Stevens in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Caitlin Kelly went 2-for-3 for 19th-seeded Carteret (6-15).

Cardinal McCarrick 11, North Brunswick 1 (5 inn.): Jackie Reilly fired a two-hitter, striking out 10 and walking none to lead 12th-seeded Cardinal McCarrick (11-6). Samantha Napoli and Melissa Adams each had three hits for the Eagles, who outhit North Brunswick 16-2. McCarrick will face fifth-seeded East Brunswick in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Rebecca Colandrea hit an RBI double for 21st-seeded North Brunswick (4-18).

Colonia 14, Wardlaw-Hartridge 3 (5 inn.): Kate Brannigan went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs for 11th-seeded Colonia (11-13), which put up a 10-run first inning. Winning pitcher Trish Daneke allowed three earned runs on five hits for the Patriots, who will face sixth-seeded Sayreville in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Lacey Gress went 2-for-3 with a double for 22nd-seeded Wardlaw-Hartridge (13-6).

Old Bridge 10, South River 0 (5 inn.): Nicole Cashman and Bri Laughlin both went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI to lead 13th-seeded Old Bridge (6-13). Amanda Carney, Alex Grubiak, and Miranda Wade all also had two hits each for the Knights while Jess Ahearn drove in three runs. Grubiak allowed just one hit, as she struck out 10 and walked one for the win. Old Bridge will face fourth-seeded Bishop Ahr in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Sam Buckenberger singled for 20th-seeded South River (16-8).

South Brunswick 17, Highland Park 1 (4 inn.): Jaime Klemas went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and two runs and Leann Panconi fired a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking none, to lead ninth-seeded South Brunswick (13-6). Carly Rybinski, Ashley Shor, Meaghan Reeder, and Jordan Schatzman all had two hits each for the Vikings. Rybinski scored four runs and Shor drove in three. South Brunswick will face eighth-seeded Dunellen in the round of 16 on Sunday at South Plainfield. Sydney McManus-Smith doubled for 24th-seeded Highland Park (10-9).

NJSIAA Tournament first round

South Amboy 7, Somerset Tech 0: Jenna Makar went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI and Kaleigh Keegan pitched a three-hit shutout to lead fourth-seeded South Amboy (12-5) to a Central Group I first round win. Ashley Mandala drove in two runs for the Guvs. Daria Marini, Giannie Cintron, and Tara Lardiere all singled for 13th-seeded Somerset Tech (6-5).

Regular Season

South Plainfield 4, J.P. Stevens 1 (9 inn.): Naomi Nieves hit a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the ninth inning and Caity Hughes followed with an RBI fielder’s choice to life South Plainfield (22-1) in extras. Caroline Ratti hit a third inning RBI single for the Tigers to score Jennifer Grasso, who collected two hits along with Katherine Vill, who allowed an unearned run on seven hits for the win. Brianna Zederbaum went 2-for-4 for J.P. Stevens (13-5), which tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on an error at home plate.

Monroe 22, Spotswood 3 (4 inn.): Casey Schieda, Jenna Therot, Cindy Foresta, and Samantha Lucas all homered as Monroe (16-1) banged out 23 hits, scoring seven runs in the first inning and then scoring 11 in the bottom of the fourth with only one out. Glorianna Perrotte allowed three earned runs on nine hits for the win. Julie Raba went 3-for-3 with two runs for Spotswood (16-2).

East Brunswick 5, Delaware Valley 3: Alyssa Ippolito picked up the win while Ashli Venokur hit a two-run homer and singled for the Bears. Ippolito, Brenna Razzano and Allie Warren each had two hits for East Brunswick. Ashley Britt and Amanda O'Brien had RBI singles and Alison O'Leary had an RBI double for Del Val.

Dunellen 14, Piscataway Tech 0 (5 inn.): Emily Cody pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 12, for Dunellen (18-1) and Benita Feliciano went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.
