GMC softball roundup for Monday, May 4

Middlesex 4, Bound Brook 3: Irene Mitossis hit a game-tying two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game for the Middlesex High School softball team, who went on to take the lead with a run in the top of the eighth, as the Blue Jays defeated Bound Brook 4-3 on Monday.

Middlesex (7-9) was down 4-0 until scoring its first run of the game in the top of the sixth. Michelle Wisniewski allowed three earned runs on five hits for the win.

Megan Kranz went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Bound Brook (12-2) while Aimme Sarboukh, who came on to pitch in the sixth inning, was tagged with the loss in relief.

J.P. Stevens 7, Piscataway 4: A five-run third inning put J.P. Stevens (12-3) out ahead, as the Hawks clinched at least a share of the GMC Red Division. Kayla Smith led off the home third with a single, Amanda Lombardi had a two-run single up the middle and Brianna Zederbaum also had an RBI single in the inning as J.P. Stevens capitalized on three Piscataway errors in the inning.

Lombardi went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ashley Lombardi allowed three earned runs on six hits for the win.

Julia Seader went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs for the Chiefs (6-6) as she singled and scored on a sac fly in the fifth and hit a solo homer in the seventh.

South Plainfield 6, J.F. Kennedy 5: Camryn Schaeffer hit a game-tying two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning and Gina Tartza followed with the go-ahead RBI single as South Plainfield (17-1) scored three runs in the inning to take the lead and hold on.

After J.F. Kennedy (7-9) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a pair of walks and sac fly from Emily Velez, the Tigers responded with a three-run home first on an RBI single from Caroline Ratti and Holly DeLair two-run double.

Kennedy tied the game with two runs in the third and took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run double from Skylar Keller, who doubled twice.

Ratti and Schaeffer each had two hits for South Plainfield, as Katherine Vill gave up five earned runs on seven hits for the win.

East Brunswick 12, Old Bridge 0 (6 inn.): Ashli Venokur and Megan Kelliher hit home runs,and Kaleigh Dwyer pitched a four-hit shutout as East Brunswick (10-8) snapped a seven-game losing streak.

In a scoreless game entering the fourth, Hayley Lipson walked with one out to begin the rally. Three batters later Samantha Smalley hit a two-run double to break the deadlock, and after Brenna Razzano singled home a run, Venokur followed with a home run to deep center.

The Bears would tack on six more runs in the sixth,as Arin Pelletier hit a two-run single before Kelliher ended the game with her three-run blast. Dwyer only let a single runner get past first base and struck out four to earn the shutout victory.

Colonia 7, Carteret 6: Yamilee Moreta went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Jill Mizak and Hannah Doyle both also had two hits each with two runs scored to propel Colonia (9-11), which scored a go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Caitlyn Murray and Bianca Oblepias each had two hits for Carteret (5-11) while Cryssi Golino had three RBI.

Bishop Ahr 8, North Brunswick 2: Ragen Reddick went 3-for-4 with a double triple, and two RBI to lead Bishop Ahr (13-4). Kayla Simon went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI, and three runs for the Trojans. Christine LaRochelle allowed six hits in the win, striking out eight and walking two while giving up one earned run. Katrina Lauri collected two hits, including a double, for North Brunswick (2-14. Sydney Voelbel and Angela Colandrea both had RBIs.

Sayreville 11, Edison 0 (6 inn.): Erin Fitzsimmons threw a one-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking three to lead Sayreville (9-3). Christina Misiur, Ryane Brush, and Kelly Duffy all homered for the Bombers. Misiur also doubled and drove in three runs while Brush also doubled as well, collecting two RBI. Emily Cabrera went 2-for-2 with a triple, RBI, and two runs for Sayreville. Amanda Mercuro doubled for Edison (3-12).

Woodbridge 16, Perth Amboy 5 (5 inn.): Carly Kjersgaard went 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI to lead Woodbridge (7-10). Justine Stefura added two hits and two two RBI with four runs scored for the Barrons. Saned Sierra and Tasha Roasario each had two hits for Perth Amboy (1-15).

Cardinal McCarrick 11, Roselle Catholic 7: Samantha Napoli went 3-for-4 with a triple, home run, and six RBI to lead Cardinal McCarrick (8-5). Jackie Riley also homered and had three hits, driving in four runs for the Eagles while Melissa Adams went 3-for-5.

Dunellen 15, Timothy Christian 0 (5 inn.): Alex Reidy went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, and three runs to lead Dunellen (14-1). Emily Cody also went 3-for-4, hitting a triple with two RBI and three runs while she got the win in the circle with a three-hit shutout. Kate Ruskuski and Benita Feliciano each added two hits for the Destroyers. Timothy Christian is 6-8.

Wardlaw-Hartridge 14, Perth Amboy Tech 2 (5 inn.): Rachel Voeltzel and Julia Linger both went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead Wardlaw-Hartridge (9-4). Voeltzel scored two runs and had two doubles while Linger scored a run and tripled. Lacey Gress allowed an earned run on two hits, getting the win for the Rams. Devyn Kenedy had an RBI for Perth Amboy Tech (7-8).

Highland Park 25, Piscataway Tech 5 (3 inn.): Zoe Shombert went 4-for-4 with a double and five RBI to lead the Owls. Nyajah Boykins and Nautica Dennis each collected three hits and two RBI for Highland Park (8-5). Ester Adiv also had three hits. Shombert allowed one earned run on one hit for the win. Annabel Espinal singled for Piscataway Tech (0-16).
