GMC Softball roundup for Saturday, April 11

South Plainfield 15, Middlesex 0 (4 inn.): Gina Tartza was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Holly DeLair hit a two-run homer in the top of the third inning as South Plainfield improved to 7-0. Caity Hughes went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Tigers while Caroline Ratti sored four runs and drove in one. Katherine Vill pitched a one-hitter for the win. Kristie Tackach had the lone Middlesex (2-4) hit.

Hillsborough 10, East Brunswick 2: Ashli Venokur hit a sixth inning two-run home run to provide the only runs for East Brunswick (5-2) in a rematch of last year’s Central Group IV sectional final. Alyssa Ippolito was tagged for six earned runs on 10 hits over six innings as Hillsborough led 5-0 before Venokur’s shot in the sixth and then tacked on five runs in the seventh to break the game open again.

Woodbridge 9, Rahway 0: Jordan Vazquez went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored to lead Woodbridge (2-3). Jordan Cinelli pitched a two-hit shutout for the win while Carly Kjersgaard went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Barrons, who scored three runs in the first, third, and fifth innings.
